 | Is this a composite or a single shot?
At f2.8 / 70mm the the DOF calculation from say six feet follows: Subject distance 6 ft
Depth of field: Near limit 5.82 ft Far limit 6.19 ft Total 0.37 ft In front of subject 0.18 ft (48%) Behind subject 0.19 ft (52%)
Pretty impressive if this was a single shot of an animal. Still, having said that I would like to see a wee bit more DOF to include the rest of the face and the tip of its nose.
Cool image!

 | bostechie, that might be true if the subject distance was 6 feet. In this case, it was less than a foot. Plus the 1D Mark III has a APS-H sensor, which is in between your standard APS-C 1.6x sensor and full-frame, so it's going to have more DOF than your average non-FF body.
Oh, and to answer your question directly: it's a single shot.hey mods · » Tuesday March 8th, @12:16AM

 | I chose 6 ft simple as a guess figure. Mainly to point out this is a difficult result. Given what you've just told me this image is more impressive. Especially given it is an animal - they frequently don't like a camera in their face and tend to fidget.
If this is just what you were going for it is quite impressive. Or, was lady luck on your side. In any event I love the results.
Subject distance 1 ft Depth of field Near limit 1 ft Far limit 1 ft Total 0.01 ft In front of subject 0 ft (50%) Behind subject 0 ft (50%) Hyperfocal distance 247.3 ft Circle of confusion 0.023 mm

 | I love it. I want to reach my finger in and just rub that space atop his nose. And those eyes are lovely. What a beautiful feline. Looks as if it's going to say, "purr", while maybe doing it as well. hey mods · » Monday March 7th, @04:30PM
