I think the negative space in this image of one of my cats, "EastSide", really turned out well. He was leaning on a doorway, so I had to crop out the small amount of door frame. This is the result.

I also used bounce flash in this shot, with a 530 on the camera as a master and a 430 behind me in the shot providing a bit of fill. (the 430 was also being used as a bounce flash, pointing straight up.)

The light is wonderful, but the comp does not work for me

I love this shot. The story it tells me is kitty was walking along from right to left, and decided at the last minute to stop and say hi. With that story in mind, the negative space works well for me.

Lighting is very pleasing and the catchlights in the eyes add a curious twinkle.

The thing that distracts me is the black blob next to her left rear leg. Is that the back of a chair?

LOL !! That "Black blob" is the kitten "stalking" him from behind. :)

I really like this. The cat owns the space!

The expression on your cats face make it look like it is up to no good lol
