bweatherill , I was sitting near the top row, probably 10-15 rows up. I was having a bit of trouble with the 300mm f/2.8 tending to focus on the mesh net between myself and the pitcher. Otherwise, when the bursts would be in focus, the trick was making sure to compensate for the downward (from that angle it's downward, from a side angle it's left/right movement) movement when he was actually pitching.
Despite having the 2x on the 300mm f/2.8, and then another 1.3x on the MarkII, I still had to crop the shot a little bit to get the tightness that it has. I am still not sure whether or not the top part needs to be cropped out - I am fairly partial to the 2:3 aspect ratio cropping style. Total 35mm equivalent focal length: 780mm.
I did about 3-4 of these pitching bursts from this particular angle, and only about two of them came out with the ball where it is. Only one came out with a full view of his eyes. hey mods · » Saturday May 7th, @11:37PM
