I had Sympatico Since August 2000. It was very good up until May of this year. Slow webpage loading E-mail serice was out for a week!! The Network Card that came with the package stopped working, I called up and said the card is dead, after talking to "network Tech" is was detrermed defective! Sympatico would not send me a new one, there response was "we dont support this card anymore, you will have to buy a replacement one yourself" so I have to pay $25 yo use there shittard service, not that $25 was a lot of cash, its the point!

AVOID AT ALL COST!

Cable??!?! Are you NUTS?!?!

Like Roger's Cable modem server is any better? I rather have tech support who can't speak english well. The reason why they can't speak english well is because the tech support office is located in Hull, Quebec. As for Roger's service? don't go there.. everyone who I know has cable is constantly complaining about no service up to a MONTH!!! With Bell Sympatico, the most I've heard or experienced was not even a WEEK!! The only good thing I can see about cable modem is that there is no cap of 120kb/s download and 12kb/s upload, unlike bell's service.

As for the network card problem, call again and say it's their product they gave to you, and it's their fault for giving you such a shitty network card.

Hey, if they don't have the cards in stock anymore, how can they send you one? The warranty for the cards has always been provided by the manufacturer (D-Link). If you have a problem with any product, go to the people who made it. They're the ones who are responsible for it's performance, not the retailer....DUH! And I really hope you're with Shaw@Home and not Rogers!

DSL RULES!!!!!!

Never had a problem with DSL since January/01.
Great speed!!!
Never lags like cable at night
Only disconnected 3 times in 10 months and I leave my PC on all night and day and always connected.
There is different types of DSL if u need more upload or download.
Sympatico software had a hard time opening web pages once so I phoned support and got this chick telling me to delete this and delete that in network settings and presto I had a hard on for dsl and the chick

Re: DSL RULES!!!!!!

Please tell me too! Basically I can't download anything with HSE, and I'm still waiting for them to reply me with solutions, they told me to go to www.safeweb.com if i can't open certain pages, but i need to download, that's what the speed's for, it's quite dumb if it couldn't be fixed!!

sympatico throughout Montreal 25-50% packet loss

I am losing between 25 and 50% of my packets, which is a very serious problem for a gamer.
This seems at sympatico throughout Montreal.
If you want to see if you a have a similar problem in windoze you can try the following.

From the START command initiate RUN.
Type COMMAND

Enter the following command "ping www.gamespy.com -l 1500" (l is a lowercase L)
I get something like this:
Pinging www.gamespy.com [207.199.1.105] with 1500 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Reply from 207.199.1.105: bytes=1500 time=298ms TTL=50
Reply from 207.199.1.105: bytes=1500 time=308ms TTL=50
Reply from 207.199.1.105: bytes=1500 time=296ms TTL=50

Ping statistics for 207.199.1.105: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 296ms, Maximum = 308ms, Average = 225ms

To add insult to injury this weekend there was a 20-minute wait to talk to a first level tech.

Well, same results here- and this is during the morning, when speeds seem up! 25% packet loss after the first ping to 3 different sites, after the first ping, 0% loss.. I'll try again in the evening and we'll see... uggh, this is pitiful, and I think for ~$50 month, we should be getting a HELL of a lot better service than this!

I am still getting packet losses of 25% during the day.

At peak times (evenings and weekends) packet losses go from 50% to 75%.

When I call at night I have 15 + Min. wait for tech support.

The most insulting is the recorded message "ALL sympatico SERVICES ARE ONLINE AND IN FULL OPERATION".

I do not pay a premium price to get email that I could get for FREE at netzero (10 hours per month!

Yes Vern it's still available.

I am a game player and this performance loss devastates my proper enjoyment of the high-speed service.

Don't complain about a $4 network card

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but someone once told me that when Bell was providing free NIC's with their install kits, they bought them in bulk at a rate of $4 each! They are crappy Dlink 530TX+ and while the card works, what do you expect for $4? Bell has had so much trouble with this card, they decided to stop providing them so they wouldn't have to support them. Now you have to buy your own network card when you install the service.
