Ordered Verizon Online ADSL 768/128 w/free installation and free modem with a one year contract for $39.99 (Bronze Plus Package) on September 1, 2000. Verizon is provider and ISP. I was informed that there was a 22 day backlog for the modem to be shipped by the Sales Rep., not happy about that but in the end, if that was the only delay I encountered, no real complaints! Yes, I'd heard all the horror stories.
The modem (a Fujitzu) actually came on the 18th (ahead of schedule!!!), so I plugged it in to see if I could get a signal (even though I wasn't slated to be activated until the 22nd) and sure enough I got the "three green lights". I went ahead and set up my network (Netgear 311 router with an old Linksys 4 port hub to my computer. I use DHCP to the ISP and Static IP to my network) plugged it in and everything worked right off the bat! I almost couldn't believe it. I am 11640 ft from my CO and get (on average) 700/128 using DSLReports.com line speeds tests.
After 2 days I haven't been down once. Hopefully this trend will continue
BTW: This isn't Verizon East Coast - It is Verizon West Coast (don't know how to change that). Sorry.

700/128 plan for 39/month?Are the west coast plans and rates not the same as east coast verizon? 640/90 plan on east coast is 39/mo. The 128 upload here would be nice.
odd? | |

Re: 700/128 plan for 39/month?Actually the service is 768/128. Verizon is several older telcos combined (formerly GTE & PacBell & BA). The west coast (old GTE) was offering a plan at 768/128 and BA where you are I'm guessing is offering 640/90. Kinda sucks doesn't it :-( ? You might ask Verizon if you can get 768/128 for the same price. One would hope that since it is all one big happy telco now that eventually pricing would equalize everywhere.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

Re: 700/128 plan for 39/month?Still not as good as the Earthlink/Covad deal @ 1.5mb/384kb for $39.99! (of course this doesn't include the self-install option)
Let the competition begin!

I'd like to see those numbers also...Covad wants $69 for 1.5/384. It doesn't even mention ISP charges. At a minimum you are looking at @89.99 a month for Covad/Earthlink 1.5/384 and probably more because the ISP will charge more for higher bandwidth.

Re: I'd like to see those numbers also...I am in the process of getting it installed now. You have to call Earthlink/Mindspring and tell them you want the $39.99 deal. The coupon code is well documented and has been mentioned numerous times in the Earthlink/Mindspring community right here on dslreports. Check out that group for more details on the offer.
Oh and I'm not doing drugs - it is amazing how annoying people on here can be - even when you try to help them out. I can now imagine giving tech support to idiots such as yourself would be a tough job.

Can you give more info on the $39.99 deal? I checked the Earthlink reviews, and found several people getting service for $49, but not $39. Is the $39 all inclusive (both DSL line and ISP service)? Or does the $39 rate only cover the line, with the ISP service making the other $10? Is the $39 deal just an intraductory rate, after which it reverts to full price? Or is it a locked in rate (well, locked in until their next price restructuring anyway)?
One other request. Please don't lump all of us in here into the idiot category. Some here are rude and deserve to spend too much; but others of us legitimately want to save money, and are just trying to learn the options that are out there.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
