  • Install: about 43 days

would have been very fast install, if not for telco problems; great customer support
have to wait until November to be re-routed to Denver :(

I ordered DSL from Phoenix in July; six weeks later I still had no loop install date, so I had to do some shopping. I came across Speakeasy on Gamespy, so I decided on them (mainly for games). I placed the order on September 1st; the loop install was set for the 12th, so needless to say, I was very pleased with the speed in processing! The Qwest guy showed up on that day, but couldn't get Covad's test signal to go through Qwest's repeater; bummer. Since I am over 21,000 feet from the CO, I had to go with IDSL. Mike (the Qwest tech) said he had tried to get a Covad IDSL line to work for someone for two months, with no success. He gave me a 200+ foot spool of Category 5 cable while he was here, anyway. Over the course of the next month, Qwest finally replaced some equipment in the CO. The telco line was installed on October 11th (probably Mike's first successful IDSL line), and the Covad install was on the 14th (a Saturday, while I was away on business).

Performance is what I expected at this point. I'm maxing out on downloads (17-18K/sec) and my game pings are around 200. My order was installed a little too late to get on the Denver POP beta test list (I live in Colorado Springs and am currently being routed through Seattle), but it will be officially online November 1st anyway. After that, I expect my pings to go down below 80, as has been said by other guys in this area who got into the beta test.

The TAC page is awesome, and both the Speakeasy and Covad reps were always courteous. I have to honestly say that $59.95 is a bit steep (I paid $40 for cable modem and $48 for RADSL at my previous residence), but it sure beats paying over $90 for ISDN or dealing with dialup.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

They just switched me to the Denver POP. Now I get pings in the 40's!!!!!

uhhh gaming pings are around 200?

I have phoenixdsl and I get around 50-70 ping while gaming in my fav servers. I also use idsl and i'm 32k feet from my co. Maybe you should try another setting or check your gateway pings

Get out now.

Well, wait till you have problems and you can't get through to their "support line", and they don't answer your emails, and they don't respond to voice-mails, and you are stuck with a one year contract. Yep, $59 is a bit steep for no service and no support. Get out while you still have the 30 option!

Re: Get out now.

I stuck it out through the thirty day trial.
I'm not disappointed.
I get 70-150 ms pings to my favorite servers.
I get 50-64K downloads...
My service is 608/128 RADSL and i'm about 4,500 ft from my co.
