Started off with FiOS in 2008 and never looked back. It's been solid with our family TV/Internet/Phone bundle, and you can usually shimmy your way to a (somewhat decent) discount on it all. Family business has Spectrum... It's all they can get. The minute FiOS expands closer towards the city we're switching. Moved out in 2021 and ordered FiOS gigabit internet at the new apartment, no issues whatsoever. member for 2.8 years, 1090 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 1 day ago
2022 Update: Sixteen Years after I first installed FiOS, the service is still as good as it was the day I had it installed. Still have the Original BPON ONT so I am speed limited. Toyed with switching to Mix and Match and my do it in the future but for now, it suits my needs. The TV and. Internet price has slowly been rising and they have introduced a lot of "recovery fees" which inflate the price greatly. My monthly package is listed at $144.55 a month. I get Showtime and HBO included for free. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Having been a FiOS Internet customer since May of 2006, I have had an entire year to use the product and break it in. Well there was no break in period. It has been extremely reliable and has NEVER been down or unavailable in the year that I have had it. I consistently get 20000 down and 5000 up and it is always the same. Quickly recovers after a power interruption and you are back on-line in seconds. FiOS TV Installation: Motorola HD/DVR Verizon added FiOS TV in our home on Friday, April 27, 2007. It went well taking all of 45 minutes for the installer to complete his work. Granted, my home was wired with RG-6 cable already so all he had to do was plug in, activate, test and place an attenuator on the line to knock down the strong signal that the ONT pushes out to the TV sets. My assessment of the TV service? Thought you'd never ask... I have never seen a clearer more lifelike picture in quite some time. Having come from Cablevision (snowy analog channels) the FiOS picture almost looks like I am looking through a window as opposed to viewing a TV program. Absolutely awesome. I took the Double play for the 1st year of $82.94 and after the year expires the prices go to their normal levels. I have VoIP so I opted to not take the phone line. I am very pleased with it and can't say enough good things about it to aptly describe what you get for your Money. member for 17.9 years, 5664 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 13 days ago
So I dropped my DSL provider that I have had for five years and switched. The install period would have been as short as 10 days but because I wanted the FIOS TV service and my availability to be off from work, the install period had to be extended. 30Mbps down 5 Mbps up is insanely fast and I am meeting or surpassing the download speeds and just under the advertised speeds - 31100 down and 4599 up with Speakeasy's WDC test. I had not run a lot of speed tests for a while but these are fun. The installer did not want to put the power supply in a location in the laundry room where it would have been completely out of the way. This is a minor issue but bothersome because a different installer did take the time to locate the power supply in the same area I had initially chosen in a neighbors house. Admittedly, putting the power supply in my preferred location would have taken way more time and involved a lot of blind fishing through a chase from the outside, but there is an obvious difference between what their installers will do for you. Both inside and outside cabling was done neatly but inside cabling is exposed. Regardless, both installers did a neat job, wore shoe covers when they went outside and came back in, cleaned up most of their debris from the installation and were courteous and friendly. I did get two installers, one who was familiar with the internet portion and one who did the television portion. Other things the site asks for: Home equipment is the Actiontec wireless router. The router is configured nicely out of the box, because it forces you to change the default user name and password on initial access and has some fairly decent default security settings for the wireless. DHCP Dynamic IP There is no need to install the Verizon supplied software beyond the initial setting up your account process. To see how it would go - I opted to use their configuring software for Outlook Express and was given an unpleasant surprise of having additional software downloaded and installed that I was not informed of or given the ability to opt out. That was not really necessary and not a good practice in my opinion. They also offer optimizer software to reset your RWIN for the higher speeds, but it is also not necessary as you can do the same with DrTCP. Overall a fairly good experience. So, I've had Verizon for a little over a year now and things are going well. I did have one instance where I lost all connectivity (Phone TV Internet) for 4 days. The coordination between customer service and getting a service call was atrocious. Many promises were made but it took from Friday until Tuesday afternoon to get service back. After 3 hours of diagnostics and head scratching on my ONT the tech discovered that it was self inflicted by another Verizon tech, who during a separate install moved my connection because it was in the way and did not put it back right. My Actiontec router lasted a whopping 14 months and then it got the LAN jitters. All LAN lights flickering like everything on the network was talking to it but no action. Wireless and the TV portion of the service survived and to Verizon's credit they dropped a replacement router on my doorstep the next morning. It was configured for PPPoE but a phone call, a hard reset and a release of the IP address fixed that. So, I am still pleased with the overall triple play bundle except that they have dropped the 30/5 package I have. So far they have not bugged me about it and I am still running at that speed. A few minor price increases in the STB and a service here and there. To put them in perspective comparing them to the increased cost of gasoline, it's been minor. Working on my third router since I've had the service. First one lasted 14 months as stated above. This one lasted less than 10 months and the transformer went bad. I am disappointed that Verizon has partnered up with a company that cannot seem to provide decent quality equipment for them. If you have a wireless router I recommend keeping it around to fill the gap when your Verizon provided equipment craps out on you. I had to switch my plan because I added a new HD STB and Verizon suggested that I could save some money due to the fact that I was out of plan. I went with the 25/15 internet service and took the HD Extreme package which added a bunch of HD channels that for the most part the better half would be interested in. My original download speeds had been sliding down to about 28MB download so it isn't much of a cutback. For some reason Verizon bumped up my 25/15 service to 30/25 and maintained the price. Whatever, I'll take it. 3/12 - Working on my second renewal. I officially had to go to the 25/25 plan although I was already getting those speeds. Rebundled with digital voice because they were forcing me off of a legacy messge rate phone service and updated the HD plan to the current HD extreme to get a better discount. Verizon internet service has been great. TV service still has great picture and audio but I am not pleased with their lack of new HD channels or their bundling pricing tactics. Capacity test statistics ------------------------ Download capacity: 25978112 bps Download packets per second: 3247 Upload capacity: 23319880 bps Upload packets per second: 2914 Quality of service: 98 % Packet size: 1000 Bytes Savings with the additional box and extra channels is about $15 per month. Still loving the service and if they will work with you on a plan that saves you a few bucks a month and give you more offerings with minimal change in internet speeds that's okay by me. So everything seems to be going okay. I don't miss the HD channels they removed and don't watch the stupid channels they added. I do like the beefed up VOD selections on the premium channels. It makes paying for the premium channels worth it. For some unknown reason they upped my speed to 30 / 25 which puts me back to my original download more or less with a boatload more upload speed. I suppose they discovered some surplus download and decided to share it. So they system is bugging me again and all I can say is that I have dropped all the premium channels and the outrageous inside line maintenance cost on the phone to save some money. They want way too much for the premium channels but don't offer enough in HD to make it worth the expense. Switched to using Netflix and Vudu for movies and get better quality at a lower price. Verizon needs to pick it up and start pumping out more quality selections in HD. »www.speedtest.net/result ··· 0061.png March 2022 Verizon offered to upgrade my ONT for free and when I called about it they had to do their sales pitch. When I told them I did not want to pay more they crunched the numbers and said I could go from my old legacy 75/75Mbps to 300/300Mbps and it was about 25 cents more so I took the bait. From order to upgrade was 2 days. I already had the ethernet connection that is required, which made the install techs job much easier. Speeds now from Speakeasy 309/343 from Verizon 305/331 from the router and 316/361 from the device. »pcpitstop.speedtestcusto ··· 1cf2fbf1 Attachments: member for 21.1 years, 11522 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 15 days ago
Since graduating from college 15 years ago, I've regularly been switching between AT&T and Verizon for wireless Internet since no provider of cable and DSL provided coverage out in the boonies, as I would switch between the two depending on which one had the best, affordable plans for cellular and data service at the time. I recently learned that I have FIOS coverage out my way now for Internet and decided to jump on that, buying their Gigabit plan (940 Mbps down, 880 Mbps up). Between the router and wireless extender hookups, my house is fully covered wirelessly to take advantage of the bandwidth speed. To say I'm getting better bandwidth for this compared to my current AT&T Wireless Internet is a literal understatement. Whereas I'd have occasions where my AT&T device could struggle streaming high-def video (720p or 1080p) for prolonged periods of time, FIOS is able to steadily hold up with its streaming without any noticeable struggles so far with my experiences using it. I'll be testing things out with my new FIOS plan over the next couple weeks. If all is well, I'll be cancelling my AT&T wireless plan. Will provide more updates on my experiences with FIOS over the upcoming weeks. member for 14.5 years, 4565 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 61 days ago
Moved from an apartment where my only choice was Xfinity, to an area served by Verizon FIOS. After having a short convo with my wife it was roundly decided FIOS would be our only serious choice for TV, Phone, and Internet. Package: HD Extreme/Entertainment Package for TV 6 HD/DVR Settop Boxes 75MB DL/35MB UL Internet Package with Wireless Gateway Verizon Digital Voice All told services will end up being around $220 a month, which is more expensive than my previous services from Comcast; but with the problems I've had with Comcast over the years I'm willing to pay a premium for quality. Install technician was very friendly and listed to how I wanted my set up for each and every room. Even though I didn't have all the TV's ready for the service he said it was no problem getting the rooms wired and the boxes activated with or without a tv. All told the entire install for a 3 story townhouse took about 3 hours. ******************************************************************************************************************************************* Moved in 2018 but kept my FIOS services; however I did downgrade in a couple of areas TV Package: Basic Entertainment Package with HBO 1 HD/DVR Set top Box FIOS Gig Service Verizon Digital Voice Service still runs strong; I've upgrade to the highest plan possible due to the amount of use our network encounters (2 VPN homeworkers, Kid with distance learning, multiple smart TVs connected to the network). No noticeable lag on either of the wireless networks I have in the house. Will continue being a FIOS customer until something else better comes along. member for 19.2 years, 4650 visits, last login: 3 days ago updated 82 days ago
03 February 2015: Once again, I have to call FiOS and straighten out another billing error. When I went with Quantum, I needed a new router (Red Banded, REV. I) to get the speeds, so they said. They wanted to charge me for it, but I refused. They finally agreed to send the router no charge. The first month's bill included a charge for the router (split into 3 payments) which prompted a call to get the charge removed. It took a long time of course. They finally agreed to refund the money, but instead of refunding they reduced the charge on the next bill. Fixed, right? Wrong! January's bill (2015, on My Verizon) includes a late payment warning for $31.00!! I figured there must be a credit due to go through, but after waiting several days, no dice. A call yesterday to Emma had me extremely frustrated. I had to explain at least four times how a company cannot issue a credit for an overcharge then re-bill the overcharge after a month goes by. It took my looking up my credit card bill and giving her dates and charge amounts before she could understand me. Another issue is that the billing representatives do not see the same thing a customer sees in billing. How is that possible? Also, when an action is taken by a representative, there is no reference number for the call and they do not send confirmation Emails or have any other way for a customer to keep track of their account and the multiple conversation that will be necessary. Every single time I have to call Verizon, it takes at least an hour to get anything accomplished. Verizon's transparency is terrible, so I will be again lowering my ratings. The value for the money also stinks because I am still not getting SpeedMatch. 10 October 2014: In May, I "upgraded" to Verizon Quantum; Verizon had been overbilling me for Internet services, so agreed to upgrade me to Quantum speeds at no charge, $65.99 for the next 12 months. In August, national TV advertisements announced a free upgrade to Speed Match. I have yet to get that upgrade. Today I open my email to find that Verizon is trying to bill me $72.99 for the "service" This isn't the first time Verizon has engaged in sneaky billing, it is at least the fourth. When I originally signed up for FiOS in 2007, the charge was $39.99 a month. I have been a loyal Verizon internet customer since the early DSL days and have recommended Verizon DSL to may people who have signed up for the service, one even was a Verizon employee who didn't have it! The prices for FiOS are now beyond ridiculous. With the $72.99 bill I just received, it is almost double the price in just six years. I can no longer tolerate this situation. Comcast can supply me with 105M service for $59.99 per month with no incentives to switch. They previously offered me $29.99 for 12 months and $39.99 for two years. I don't want to hear baloney about "shared connections" and "FiOS is better quality"; Verizon cannot deliver the speeds they promise. I have performed speed tests - real world speed tests, not the joke Verizon has for speed tests, if they even work - many times a day. My last mile speed is indeed fast, but that is only to New Jersey. In California, I go back to the slowest DSL speeds. Apparently Verizon's pathways or nodes are very poor cross country. I just spent quite some time on a chat (Chat ID 10101487080) with a representative who claimed I could get the new, free router which would give me the faster Speed Match. Turns out that in order to get the "free router", I have to pay an additional $25.00 a month, plus pay for shipping of the new router and sign a two year deal. I don't have a problem with a two year deal, but two years is shorter for Verizon, I imagine. My current "deal" is supposed to be for 12 months and they are already raising my price $7.00 in just five months?? Verizon, what are you playing at? I agreed to service that you provide. I gave you the ability to auto bill me, so you aren't even waiting for money from me. No late payments, but I am "rewarded" with a $7.00 increase in billing for service that I am not even getting. I have had enough. This issue gets fixed today or I will no longer be a Verizon customer. I will also be posting this on Broadband Reports.com and lowering all of my ratings on Verizon FiOS, because of the unethical billing practices. Like I said, this isn't the first time, but it will be the last. I had some specific instructions for the tech, and she went one better with it. We canceled the first install because of *our* schedule; the tech was finished in 6 hours on this appointment and was very conscientious, placing the battery backup in a great location. FiOS seems to have it all over the DSL department. I have to say the order to live was about 7 days, because they would have installed on the original date were it not for our change. I don't know if I would have had the same tech, but I am glad she did it. Vonage didn't work right off, but it is understandable that the tech wouldn't be allowed to set that up. All I had to do was port forward and I was back on in less than four minutes with Vonage. Super seamless! 7/13/07 - Still loving FiOS. If you are paying for DSL, especially 3.0/768... dump it for this. I have cancelled VZ phone service, and couldn't be happier with FiOS. Zip,Zoom,Fly! 9/29/07 - FiOS is still it. Now to do something about my VoIP, which is not making it at all. (The orange box people) 11/23/07 - I called FiOS and reported an outage. Not the first I experienced, but this was a bit longer. Called at 08:10 and had a truck show up at 09:20! In one hour and ten minutes I had a service tech. It took him another 20 minutes maybe to change the ONT, and all was well. Bravissimo, FiOS! I changed my tech support rating to a 5 because they deserve it. 07/21/08 - Nothing really new to report, unless no interruptions are new to you. If you read this while on cable - well, why did you? 09/16/08 - Still cruising along at light speed. No problems, just uptime. Get it. Got FiOS? If you don't have it by now, you are silly. 6/22/09 - No problems still. Price has gone up so I may call and complain about that. 12/05/10 - Still the same rock solid FiOS as was on day one. If you are reading this better than three years later, why haven't you made up your mind yet? 7/27/14 - Should have updated this a while ago. The price kept creeping up for the same service, so I felt I wasn't getting very good value for the money. They upgraded us to the 50m/25m "Quantum" service. The speed is not consistent and is really only a "last mile" speed. 11/10/15 - Still with FiOS, now 50/50 service (69.95). The throughput is good now, just some buffer bloat remains. Getting Quantum SpeedMatch was, of course, a royal pain, Everything about Verizon is shady, and susbscribers have to watch out for their nearly monthly sneaky billing practices. Thankfully, I have never subscribed to TV or phone services. To get the SpeedMatch, I had to subscribe to 150/150 service, then downgrade (another lengthy process) because the ONT was too old too support the newer service. Since that also required a router of theirs for the "full speed", I declined their updated router. My speed test showed it was fast enough. They had sent me a "free" Revision I Actiontec; this "free" router required at least six calls to get the router charge removed from my bill. I solved a lot of the buffer bloat and range/throughput problems with a Netgear AC1750 router. 4/25/16 - Verizon raised my price to $107.99, so I called to get it back down to $69.99; due to the strike (I guess), the management replacement representative said he could not do it, could only get it to $77.99 after a lengthy phone call of at least 40 minutes, probably more. I said no, because nothing is different and they are offering better prices for new subscribers. I have been with FiOs since inception back in 2007. Called the next day hoping for someone else, they stuck to their guns and told me I had to pay the new price. When I asked if they would rather have nothing than the original $70.00, they basically said yes. Unreal. I called Comcast, ordered the $59.99 cable service of 75/75 (which actually is 130/12), then called Verizon and canceled, explaining why. They processed the cancelation for me and I am thinking that I am happy to now be paying ten bucks less a month, albeit for a lower upload. Three days later, FiOS Retentions calls me wondering about the cancelation because I was such a longtime customer, representative says the cancelation reason is vague; I explained that I was quite specific when canceling and repeated my story. He then offers me a new deal to come back: $29.99 for the first twelve months, the first two months credited back to me at no charge; a new Gateway router (free, not a rental) for better range and dual band speed, with the next year at $54.99. Of course I took the deal. I changed ratings to reflect the up-time of FiOS. 7/12/20 - Continues to be rock solid, 100/100 connection that runs at full speed when wired. 2/20/21 - Still at 100/100, still runs full speed wired. Changed review to reflect second year price. 4/26/21 - Took advantage of an offer and upgraded to 200/200. Test speeds exceed that by 100/100. A nice bonus, especially by reducing the bill by $10.00 per month. 12/21/21 - Not much has changed. FiOS does not offer a "200/200" plan, but their $49.99, 300/300 is super. Still using the G1100, no reason to change. member for 19.1 years, 2751 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 94 days ago
I'm getting $10/mo off from an employer discount. Off contract now. I have a grandfathered triple play promo minus auto-pay ($10). Automated Phone System suckssssssss. They need to nix it. That, and that foreign support... but then again it's apparently the norm these days, as Altice (Optimum) has foreign support now, too. -Custom TV - Action and Entertainment, 1 DVR VMS 1100 (but NO DVR Service) -Gigabit Internet (or is it?) -Phone Service with No-Listing Installers seemed too rushy. If you didn't want to do it their way - "here, and good luck!" mentality. Gigabit speed for has not existed for some time now even though Verizon support claims they do not throttle less than 1000GB of data a month. I was moved to a card with almost no customers on it and I still cant get passed about 650mbit up and down, DIRECT to ONT. Used to get 940/980 when installed. member for 20 years, 1942 visits, last login: 3 days ago updated 123 days ago
We currently have the Mix and Match with Gigabit Internet, Home Phone & TV Great service The G3100 Gateway Router works great, but could be better, Looking forward to the next generation of speed and wireless connectivity! member for 8.4 years, 1304 visits, last login: 1 day ago updated 138 days ago
Deliriously happy to switch from Comcast to Fios, many years ago. When I eventually unbundled and chose Internet only, getting rid of my landline for mobile only, and TV package for Sling, Verizon stuck it to me, $79 a month. Now that I'm moving out of the area to a rural area, I see that's not a terribly noncompetitive price. WHat I don't like is that my month by month contract says $99mo, but with a $20 discount, which they could pull at any time. Since Comcast is also available, I guess I could switch back and forth for a better deal, but it's not worth the hassle. Frankly, I'm on the Starlink waiting list at new address, so I guess I will miss Fios, but I won't miss Verizon. member for 20.9 years, 54 visits, last login: 47 days ago lodged 166 days ago
We are enjoying FiOS for the first time in our lives. Currently trialing the service and FiOS TV in a vacation rental home, planning to subscribe when our home nearby is ready. The alternative here is Mediacom cable and it's not even close in comparison... FTTH wins every time. It blows my mind how fast photo sharing goes now. We're sold! member for 19.4 years, 4768 visits, last login: 30 days ago updated 189 days ago
