A VRAD is U-Verse network node installed in your neighborhood.  Officially VRAD stands for Video Ready Access Device in U-Verse nomenclature.  It's really nothing but a fancy term for a network node where all VDSL lines in your area converge at.

A VRAD (Video Ready Access Device) is the local FTTN equipment for AT&Ts voice/video/data services marketed as U-Verse.
Three common deployment configurations are used.

NOTE: A VRAD can be distinguished by having an electrical power meter (and other electrical components) where other devices (eg crossbox) are passive (or draw power from the line itself).

Feedback received on this FAQ entry:
  • VRADs, like other active equipment, can be a target for vandalism or theft. One provider with VRADs in a large urban center recently worked with the police to identify when lead-acid batteries (used for backup power during short-duration power outages) were stolen from VRAD cabinets.
