Not compelling...is right, at least for me. I genuinely do not feel the need to have this. I love HD but as far as 3D...meh. |

iPlayTVDish has a thing called iPlayTV, will this be like that where Dish Network put this on your bill even though you don't even use iPlayTV?
If that the case, might as well buy a 3D TV. |

3D tvBig whoop. I'm happy with my HD and as far as the 3D tv I have seen, such as the one in best buy on display, I'm not really excited about it.
If they can broadcast 3D tv from outer space but yet fail to provide an adequate 720P HD signal that doesn't get choppy around edges during action, well then, fail. |

3D will be a flop.Companies are already have trouble selling 3DTVs so they've cut the prices down big time. No one cares for this technology because no one wants to sit in their living room with 3D glasses on and watch something.
My motion sickness tells me to stay away from 3D so that is exactly what I do. |

I feel the same way, and this is from someone who was waaaay late to the HD party. Avatar in IMAX 3D was great.
id not watch 3D on a 50" television though. for one thing I am rarely aligned at the screen and usually also using my computer. so id have to lift the glasses to use the computer and then put them back on to watch TV. not worth it to view 3D programming on the TV. |

Money grubbing companyDirecTV nickles and dimes for everything. Every time they start charging for services I remove twice as much in cost. I started with 5 receivers and am now down to 2 because they continue to raise rates every 4 months and change their packages in favor of themselves trying to force people to use the most expensive. Id be all for paying extra for 3D, if the entire service wasn't 10x times as expensive as it should be to begin with. |

DirecTv and 3-DDirectTv and others chanrge for everything the same thing that they did with the whole home dvr system. But that is a great system. If you don't have the whole home dvr you should get it. |

DTV 3D not that greatI've got a 3D tv and Directv. The content isn't all that great and it repeats often. I watched a little of the X games and the National Championship game in 3D and didn't mind the glasses. I would use it more if there was some better content.
I tend to only watch movies with my 7 year old and his friends in 3D. All of the 3D movies I own are kids movies like Toy Story, etc. I've watched a few live action movies and they don't seem to do as well as the animated movies. |

Actually, you most likely will own one. Just like you can't buy a non HDTV anymore (or at least it is getting really hard not to), you won't be able to find a TV without 3D built into it several years from now (unless this whole push dries up). |

You will likely own one. Everyone will. You won't be able to buy a TV without 3D built in in a matter of years if the trend continues. It is the same sort of thing with HDTVs, the amount of standard resolution TVs is drying up fast. |

No I wont own one. Because I use this thing called the internet more than I use TV. Hell my computer is connected to my TV and most of my TV time is surfing the interwebz. Plus Unless comcast is going to give 3D channels free we wont be upgrading at all. Also 3 of the TV's used around our house are old CRT TV's and we have spares so as long as our TVs work we wont buy new anyway. |

Re: DTV 3D not that greatJust a note about 3d stuff and kids: from » blogs.howstuffworks.com/ ··· -adults/ In the 1960s, Nobel Prize winning research by Drs. Hubel and Weisel came up with a critical period during which the optic nerves learn stereopsis â the time up to 7 years old. Doctors thereafter used this critical period as the point-of-no-return for treatment of lazy eye. The old way of thinking was that lazy eye cant be treated after 7 years old.
However, recent medical science indicates that the nervous system never stops learning and re-learning. Doctors today will tell you its never too late to try to treat strabismus â or re-teach the optic nerves the trick of binocular vision. The chances of success may be diminished beyond seven, but theres still a chance.
So, if its never too late for the optic nerves to learn correct vision, one can surmise that its also never too late to learn bad habits that could create visual problems. |

Why has the focus shifted away from HD?I understand 3D is a new technology and if we don't give it a chance, it will never thrive. But what happened to DirecTV being the HD leader? They have fallen behind in terms of HD channel count compared to many other providers. If your a member of DBSTalk, you can vote on what HD channels you are interested in over at this thread: » www.dbstalk.com/showthre ··· t=190308I for one wish we had AMC, BBCA, DIY, E!, Style, Fuse, TruTV, IFC, Sundance, History International, HLN, TCM, We, Cooking, ION, LMN and a few other basic networks before diving into 3D. |

More MoneyPerhaps they could start charging for color.........just a thought |

Ready to jump ship anyhow - 3D be damned! My original Hughes HDVR2 is on life support, and I have another DTV DVR that is flaking out. I am about ready to abandon ship and jump on board with Cablevision or FIOS. Just waiting until enough folks confirmed that these are working OK: » www.cetoncorp.com/products.phpThen it's off to the races with a new Media center PC build and a single cablecard rental. Supplement that with an ATSC tuner card for a fifth stream to boot. They can ALL keep their flaky STBs and remote control rental fees once I'm done with them. PS - per subject line, 3D is no factor whatsoever. Since I'm unwilling to pony up +$10/month for HD, you can imagine how indifferent I am to 3D fees |

Wake me up when the holographic TV's and displays arrive...When I can watch high definition 3d, 360 degrees without glasses or any other equipment needed at reasonable pricing, wake me up. Until then, 3d is a non-starter for me at any price...

Re: DTV 3D not that greatWe asked my son's doctor and she said that the once a week or once every other week 3d movie isn't going to cause any harm. She said she would worry if he was watching 3D content several times per week for hours on end.
We usually pick up a new movie and watch it the first time in 3D and then when we watch it again in 2D. I've never seen that warning with any of the kids movies I've bought. I saw the warning at the beginning of Call of Duty which is rated M. Go figure. |

Directv doesn't nickel and dime. That is what Dish Network does. My Premiere package hasn't increased since February 2010. The rate stayed the same. They increased the monthly DVR fee from $6-$7.
I have just looked at all my options since my Contract expired in November 2010. Directv is by far the cheapest and best for me. One reason is I like my sports. Yes I could go to Dish on 12MO price of $49.99 for 250 versus Choice Ultimate for $70.99
As for 3D I don't have a TV. If I had one I would consider the fee depending on what it was. |

Re: Not compelling...i also do not care at all about 3d especially having to wear glasses over my glasses to see it. and i can not think of sitting there for hours watching 3d like if it was all the time it would bug me.
less remakes and reboots and smarter stories is worth a llot more to me than more eye-candy |

3D will be dead by that time....Limited content. Expensive to make that content. And most of all. Having to wear glasses. Even when the screens come out with glasses not needed. Most will most likely not even care about it. It is not meant to watch all the time either. |
