Actually, when you're miserable, so are insurance companies...that's when they're paying out. |

IF.......If Ronald had a legitimate business and sent 70M advertising letters thru the US Postal System, at the lowest bulk rate his bill for postage alone would be over $9,000,000.
Instead, people like Ronald do their dirty business at other's expense.
Laws need to be passed that make the economics of SPAM less than desirable. The only things these guys understand is $$
And I hope when that day comes, figures like this $9,000,000 and the needless extra expenses people like Ronald causes to ISP's, Businesses, and Individuals are taken into account when the sentences and fines are doled out! |

Tantamount to TheftIf you consider that roughly half the internet traffic is now spam, then half your monthly payment to your ISP might be going to support the additional infrastructure needed to keep this guy and others like him living high on the hog.
If the spam suddenly ceased, we'd have twice the Internet traffic capability that we have now.
Think about that next time you pay your bill. |

But at least on AOL, you can go to keyword MARKETING PREFS and turn off their popups and other annoyances. Or could, anyway. I haven't seen an AOL login in a whilw, since I finally got all my clients off the service. |

Caught in a lie?Looks like Ronald Scelson has lied to either USA Today or Congress. In his USA Today article he says "....he gives consumers the option to be removed from mailing lists, does not hide behind forged e-mail addresses, does not bounce e-mail through foreign relays and leaves contact information on his bulk mail." To Congress he testified "...he has had no choice but to resort to forging the sender information in his bulk e-mail so he can be anonymous and maintain his connection to the Internet."
Hmmm so which is it Mr. Scelson? More stories about poor Bayou Boy trying to make a living. Better find a real good lawyer. |

Soo....Who are the dumb ass companies that are actually paying this guy to send out spam?
"....last year cost businesses an estimated $10 billion in lost productivity."
Well some one is making money to pay these spammers.
"sends millions of e-mails to 50 or so computer servers in the USA, China, South America and Europe."
And what are these?? open relays??
And why is his isp allowing this?? I guess as long as he pays them, they could care less. |

Responsible bulk e-mailer is an oxymoron"But Scelson says he is a responsible bulk e-mailer." It is simply not possible to send 50 million emails per day and be responsible (for anything but chaos.) |

Re: Soo....well, he may be his isp. if he controls his own backbone (and i use that term referring to internet, not his spineless ass) then there isnt someone to complain to. maybe if we use his company domain and forward our spam to webmaster or abuse at his domain, then it might crash his mailwasher |

Re: Now we have a face to the nameAsk and you shall receive.(Home address, phone number, etc.) Spamhaus.org has information on a multitude of spammers. I encourage everyone to call each phone number he has listed repeatedly, at all hours of the night, selling "Penis Enlargement Products". I also encourage you to sign him up for every known magazine subscription or use this information for other nefarious purposes. |

And how would this help? You don't fight fire with fire. You fight fire with water. By doing the above, you are opening yourself up to potential legal problems that may last well past the life of this guy's spam campaign. Spam is annoying but it is not worth advocating actions against him such as calling his house. That's just plain dumb. I must admit that I do not have a proposed solution to this problem at the moment but I know calling his house is not it. |

There's a big difference between AOL's pop-up ads and unsolicited "junk" email. True, they are both equally annoying, but AOL's ads are targeted at AOL subscribers, not everyone/anyone with a valid Internet email address. AOL subscribers who don't like AOL's consumer marketing driven tactics can either modify their marketing prefs or better yet, take their business to a REAL ISP. Unlike AOL, SPAM can't be discontinued or uninstalled. Anti-spam software helps, but it's not perfect. When they actually work, those "No-Thanks" or "Opt-Out" removal links on junk email only seem to propogate your email address to more junk email lists. AOL is elective; SPAM is inflicted! |
