World Wide Hack Attack?

I seams to me that these kiddes can find something better to do with the endless amount of youth that they have! This is one time I hope the FBI= Famous But Ineffective is working!

you know i hope the internet goes down for a day or 2 maybe epeople will realize that there is a sun a sky a moon stars etc ... it would suck to not be able to do anything online for a few days but i mean hey its not like we have a vacation from it for any reason anyways technology = good obsessing over technology = can be bad

I think anyone who participates in this contest will def get a knock on their door by the feds.

Anyone attempting to crack (not "hack") web servers, or perform DOS/DDOS attacks, should obviously know how to spoof their IP. If they don't they deserve to be caught.

Now we'll see which IT admins deserve their pay and which ones should be fired. They've got the warning days ahead of time. I better spruce up my résumé!

True but with some good tracking they can def find that person, it will take awhile, but with these so called cyber terrorism bills being passed, we need to see what happens.

I dont think anything will happen (FBI wise) since the sites that will get exploited/hacked/cracked arent anything important.. (unlike bank,gov,popular online stores ect..) Plus the world has advanced warning to patch and update software (so who would really be to blame?)...

hehe Maybe the RIAA site will get vandalised again!! and give us all a good laugh.. lol

Sigh...this really shows no one has been listening for the past 40yrs....hackers do not "hack" sites and deface them..thats not the whole point behind a hacker....crackers on the other hand do that..they are the cyber newbies who think it's the dope kinda thing to do...to show they are more superior towards the regular "user" ...calling people hackers and then saying they are gonna only damage websites or maybe hardware, is a joke. im sorry but the idiot news reporter calls them Hackers needs be fired...what a dumb ass.

Few people understand the difference between Hackers & Crackers -Any wonder the whole topic is mis understood by many and fewer points made toward resolution; of course plle understand SPAM -It's a meat product {well, so the latest court contest thinks}!

Be CoOl, if there where a whole lot more hackers out there; perhaps plle don't UNDERSTAND how security patches are developed. Wish appropriate terminology could be used, when the topic is about Crackers

I'm sure the Feds are getting smarter, since they use old crackers & new Hackers -Nothing like recruiting the plle that know the game.

Amazing how much press is spent on what hackers will do and very little is spent on how badly written the software products are that will let this happen. Any bets on which software products will get hacked? Mine will be on the "All Inclusive" or "Do Everything" products.

Yea, all in Virigina. Tech-TV has done a couple special's on it.... It's absolutely amazing. The main room is setup like a combination of NASA and the Star Ship Enterprise.

Any idiot with $10 can put up a web page and make the current feds. go running whee whee whee in fear (shock and awe, perhaps?).

This will go no where, there will not one site hacked on sunday, and 500mb of webspace can be bought for 30 bucks. A real hacker wont risk his neck, or take the time, for 500mb webspace. All just another hype by the government. Just like in 2000 y2k bug (you forget already) even if the hackers where still going to do it, the main website is shut down and they have no way of getting there 500mb websapce so they would be doing it for nothing.... There is nothing to worrie about nothing will happen, keep your shorts on people this is just another publicity scam..

I totally agree with you except, the ones who would do this are not hackers per se, but the 'script kiddies' who are looking to impress friends.

"Hey look! I took down all these websites! Im so L33t".

These would be the ones causing the problems if this does evolve into anything sunday.

Let's hold our own contest...The person or party that lists the most Hacked/Defaced websites actually visited gets 10 brownie points...

I've only ever seen one hacked site (Atlanta.com just after 9/11) quite by accident. Usually by the time the news breaks about a defacing the site is restored.

They really should stop pulling this 'cyber warfare' scare card out of the propiganda hat... its not scary.

I don't see this happening,at least on the scale that the gov't has predicted.A good hacker could easily steal 500 megs of storage space from a corp.server

Well if RIAA keeps hacking PCS and deleting files they will be in the FBI's list

Perhaps this explains why this has been the worst week in 2 years for scans and probes on several of my internet Firewalls.

Seems they already succeeded in some respect as I spent sometime this week rechecking firewall policies, checking software and firmware updates etc to be sure they have not found a hole.

Anyone else see a rise in this activity this last week.

Of the website that is promoting this contest? Why is it only News agencies and the FBI seen this site? I think this is a smoke and mirror conjured up by the FBI.. They plan on doing something this weekend and could cause problems to the internet as a whole.

So if you lose your auction on ebay because you couldnt access the web site, the "HACKERS" (should be crackers)are at fault.

Hey what is the prize if you win? I mean it cant be that easy to deface 6,000 websites in 6 hours. Can it?

I still think it was a hoax. Taken off line. I dont think it was ever online.

I tired to ping that address but all I get is ping request could not find host.

I maybe off track, but they would have had a DNS entry to have that web address. So if they did have a DNS entry, I would have at least gotten an IP for that web address, but a request timed. I know the DNS servers do not up date that quickly.
But like I said, I could be off track about this.

One never knows, but giving the FBI that much credit is a real reach, IMO.

OpenBSD firewall up to date and active... check.
Apache patched and current... check.
Apache running as non-root user... check.
OpenBSD in use on web server and up to date... check.
PHP patched... check.
Passwords stronger than hell... check.

when i go to the site i see a pic of someones eyes and a enter button but when i click on it nothing happens...
