Almost everything anybody does is a self-interest something, at least they are helping something that has a good cause.

LOL nice Aliens reference! I love that movie! Go Hicks!:) As far as Veri-annoying is concerned, ICANN should have stripped them of power a long time ago.

Already did that a few years ago.. They have some good prices on domain registration and love to see they are willing to spend the money I help give them to do something good like this.

I wouldn't go that far. While it's partially noble, they're really just looking out for number one. If they were the monopoly trying to implement an ad-driven redirection service you'd see no such moral concerns.

Yes, already did that two years ago. Coming up to my second renewal this April. Go Daddy is not bad. I'd recommend them for domain name registration.

Good press for godaddyThey shell up 100k, and get their name out there in the "name of good".
I give it about four-five months till they make all that money back up.
Little investment, big return? I guess so.

Wild West DomainsEven better than that, Go Daddy's sister company is Wild West Domains. As a Wild West Domains dealer I can meet or beat Go Daddy's prices and make a nice profit doing so. So to register your domain at a great rate, go here: » www.secureserver.net/def ··· suzanney

Yep; I have a couple of domains registered through one of their groups. Great service! I had a problem getting one of the domains transferred properly. I extected a back-and-forth email exchange that would last a few days at least to get things figured out, but no! THEY called ME on the phone within an hour and they had the problem resolved before we hung up the phone!!

Nice gestureNice gesture, but GoDaddy is a crappy company. I prefer NameCheap, where they don't use RealPlayer-like tactics to shove upgrades down your throat at every possible chance during the domain buying process. GoDaddy makes it way too complicated to just buy a freaking domain name.

About GoDaddy.I asked GoDaddy about their policy when this was posted on /. and I have yet to receive any response. » ask.slashdot.org/article ··· e=nestedFrom the above discussion. I got more details from GoDaddy as I talked to their abuse department on the phone. This is what they told me: 1) Some person (a person I do not know) sent out an email to a bunch of people with their newsletter, and included a link to their message board that was hosted by ProBoards. 2) Another person received a copy of that email, and took it as spam (it may have been -- although the email looks like a newsletter). 3) That person SpamCop report, and contacted GoDaddy regarding it. 4) I deleted that message board account about 2 days prior to GoDaddy disabling my domain name. 5) GoDaddy disabled the domain because it was "associated" with spam. Now let me make this clear if you don't understand it: Some person out there on the Internet sent an email to another person out there on the Internet and because that email mentioned my domain name in the body of it, my domain was disabled for being associated with spam. The email did NOT originate from my servers, it was not sent by me or a member of my staff. It is just like if I opened up my mail program and sent an email to a hundred people mentioning somewhere in the email "slashdot.org" and then /.'s registrar disables their domain by changing their name servers. To top the entire situation off, GoDaddy charged me a $250 fee to get my domain name back! I am now looking to transfer my domain names to a new registrar, so time to start looking - and time to start considering legal action. -- ----------------------------------------------------------

Ok, from what I can find out and read, you are right to be upset with GoDaddy, for moving as hard and as fast as they did. However, your above statement that I quoted is questionable. Your customer shopper1 sent out a BOATLOAD of spam over the course of a few days. That spam directed people to a 'forum' on your servers. Again, GoDaddy moved too fast and too hard this time, but if you host a website for a spammer and know what is going on and do not disable the website you most certainly do deserve to lose your domain, and your connectivity. And frankly your gonads as well. It matters not if the email came from your servers. If you knowingly host the site while he spams you are making hosting money from the spam. Not acceptable. Just clearing that one issue up. It is obvious that you nuked the guy quickly and that GoDaddy should have figured that out and thanked you, not locked your domain. And it was far more than one person that complained about him. Below is a google groups on just the anti-spam communities reports of the spam. » groups.google.com/groups ··· filter=0

Re: About GoDaddy.I should have been more clear. The first sentence is from DAldredge and the rest is from another seperate /. poster.
But it appears that GoDaddys policy is to suspend domains before they check. So if I get pissed at someone with a GoDaddy domain all I have to do it forge some emails that contain the domain I hate in the body of the message and then complain to godaddy about it. And poof, the domain will stop working.

YAY Go Daddy!Go Daddy is worth it and I'm glad they are doing something useful with the profits they've made from my registration. I got 5 extra years of registration on my domain name for what I would pay for one year with verisign/network solutions.
As to the person above who posted above me about someone using their domain name to spam, It has happened to me for a while now. Except I'm the one getting spammed by someone using MY domain name. It's not going away anytime soon I'd guess. I believe whatever problem you claim to have had with Go Daddy, is very rare. Plenty of people I've recommended to Go Daddy have had nothing but good things with them, me included.

Re: YAY Go Daddy! If anyone's getting Joe Jobbed like this, the best advice I can give at this time (and it's not definitive or standardized...yet) is to publish SRV and SPF records in your DNS. The effect is not likely to be immediate, as SPF will take time to be adopted, but at least those who bother to check will see if it really comes from you or not.

Godaddy is closed:Is Godaddy is closed?
I have three domain account on its server. What should I do? I need to register another domain company in order to get back my domain? I have prepaid two years registry fee. Whether I need to pay again if I change to another domain company in this two year? I have one domain without web hosting. Whether I can't use this domain now?
