Why?!?

That's my main question. I've been a GMail tester for a while and it's not worth money. Period. Sure, it's a nice service and there are a few unique features, but why do people pay for something when you can get it for a free (in a little while, I'm sure)?

Another concern I have is how many people getting these invitations are actually beta testing it? I'd assume very few since they're more likely shoving in other people's faces saying "Haha! I have a GMail account and you don't!"

--Also, I don't have any invitations -- I gave them out for FREE, 'cause I'm a nice guy like that!

The fact that we the most important thing in some people's lives is getting a vanity e-mail address (which is free).

I'm still confused. Are you saying that Osama Bin Laden is planning specific terror attacks against the US because he couldn't get a Gmail invitation test account and then found out that they will eventually be free??

Who the heck even got it?

I still don't understand how they determined who and who should not get to be a beta tester.

I must go to google every day, enter my e-mail address, and click "I'm interested in account!". Yet I still do not have one!:(

Re: WTF???

everything.

it's called "stupid ass commericalism"

If you can't nail it down, fark it, or steal it... sell it for a stupidly high price for something that is worth nothing.

Most likely they will only reply back when GMail goes public. Maybe when it goes public people will realize how silly they're being

Subscribers to Google's blogger received the first Gmail accounts. They in turn were given a limited number of invitations to email to anyone. Don't expect one anytime soon unless you get a free invite from a friend. That, or maybe Gmail will come out public sooner.

Remember how long Froogle and GoogleNews were in BETA? They were open to the public at large. If GoogleNews is any indication, I would assume within six months Gmail will go public. Possibly in December.

Those members of Blogger (a Google owned blog company) were offered an invitation (assuming you publish a lot of blog entries). That's were most, if not all, of the participants were offered a chance to test.

You won't have an account until it gets released to the public unless you can find someone who is giving away their invitations that either: 1. hasn't already, 2. isn't selling it for a billion dollars.

I can't wait for that day to happen and people will realize "Damn. I just paid for a free e-mail account and now anyone that wants one can get one with little to no problem registering a specific username!"

It's fun watching people beg for it now, though

In reality, theres no significance to having one except for the fact that only a select few have them. If that's all that gmail has going for it except for the storage, then I'll wait until it goes public. Hell, i only remember that gmail exists because dslr occasionally brings it up .

*note - Im not putting gmail down because i don't have an account.

Instead of bidding and trading for a gmail account, it would be a whole lot cheaper and easier to register a domain, pay for mail hosting, and you can have any username you can possibly imagine. Not to mention faster. With a credit card, you could have your email account on your own domain in 15 minutes.

In my opinion, that's a good thing. Free e-mail domains quickly find themselves on blacklists because of the massive amount of spam that originates from them.

I'm Not Desperate

I didn't get one.
I don't think I care for one either, even after it's made public. Google can't be the only e-mail company to offer a gig of space after it comes out.

Others will soon follow.
The privacy issue with G-Mail is also disturbing 2 me.
