Re: stupid unNonsense! Most of the countries represented at the UN are third world countries. While we were putting men on the moon, building the first computers, and designing the IEEE specs for the ethernet that was being put into practice, most of these UN represented people had never yet seen so much as a telephone. Much of the world remained with 18th and 19th century technology if they have any at all. They have no right to impose their backward standards on us. It is OUR technology. They may ask to use it only under our rules. They have no right to impose their rules on what is rightfully ours.

Poor people are allowed to participate in the democratic process in America. Poor countries are are given the same liberty on UN councils. I see no problem here.

OH Goodie! another UN discussion on BBRHow may times are we going to hash out this old one.
Let's get it all over with now, and lock the thread. It's just too nice of a weekend outside here on the East coast to go on with this crap.
Someone will say the "Rednecks" in Washington won't do it because they're to US-centro. Another person will spend about 10,000 keystrokes arguing that the ITU is totally separate from the security counsel, and no matter how many times the opponents to this idea (turning the internet over to ITU) say they understand that, Mr. "ITU is not the SC" will hammer away at the same point until the post count tops 100.
Then, when it all FINALLY comes to a crescendo of bullshit, the discussion will be nothing but a "I love Bush VS, Bush is the Antichrist" festival of mudslinging.
Let's face it, the US is not turning anything over to the UN any time in the near future, so why argue about it.
I say enjoy the weekend, go grab a beer, sit in the sun, and soak up the warm weather. Winter is only a few months away.
Edit due to bathroom cleaner fume intoxication LOL
|

Re: OH Goodie! another UN discussion on BBRFYI ICANN is in the US and runs it now...the US/ICANN would be turning things over the UN/ITU. I mean if you are going to flip out and rant on, at least rant about the right stuff.
Maybe too many beers have been had already.

Stop making sense, that's too logical. We can't have a six page discussion on this topic without "the UN sucks" or "Bush is a crook" being slung every three seconds.
It's all a load of hooey anyways. I just love hearing "The U.N. can't do anything right!" or "over my dead body" comments. Absolutely hilarious. Great regurgitation of what's already been spoon fed via talk shows...can't someone have an original thought on this subject?

I'll tell you how: why not just argue that the grass is green and the sky is blue? these are both indisputable facts, but do they get to the heart of the issue at all? what is the objection to the UN taking control...is it steeped in the technical, or the national? is it fear of a foreign body in control or something else? posting "the UN sucks" really doesn't answer those questions. not that I'm a W fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the other sides bleating about issues nonrelated to this topic is just as facetious.

| | | | | |
Re: OH Goodie! another UN discussion on BBRI don't disagree.
However I fell ICANN has not done anything wrong to justify the swap of control. Had they pulled a verisign and I would say it needs to be changed.
but until then technically they should not be disrupting the core dns servers and said equipments operation, even if they wanted to shift control.

The ITU is anti-American ! Because. It is run by a liberal/communist who used to hold a high position in the Chinese government.
It's time to get in touch with our state representative's and the Whitehouse itself to express our beliefs as to why the UN terrorists should NOT have any control of the internet. And to please bomb the UN out of existence if they keep pushing the issue for control of it.I'm pretty sure a 4 star general with the right security clearances and proper back channels. Can launch a missile with the push of a button some where to get the UN to STFU.

The Useless Nations, aka UN is impotent......and the LAST body you'd want in charge of ANYTHING! If the UN takes over the Net we'll have unscrupulous people trading oil-for-URLs or worse.
The best thing that could happen to the Useless Nations is that it be disbanded. Never have so many impotent politicians been gathered in one place to waste time and money...

The sanest statement from you yet.
I mean what more can you say, inefficiency, blindness to mans inhumanity to man, ignorance of the basic principals of management and an inability to reach consensus when real disaster strikes nations because of national rivalries and jealousies; but you knew that any way......

Big mean kidAfter reading this and earlier threads about this topic it is no wonder that so many people in the world dislike or even hate the US. Corruption and nepotism are more abundant in the Republican party than in the UN. The US is often like the big mean kid in the schoolyard that beats up other kids if they don't play by his rules. You know what? There are 193 kids in that school. One day all those kids will decide that they don't want to play any more.

FunnyFunny how we don't want to turn the internet over to the UN because they are corrupt, scandal-ridden thieves who are unable to control their budget or do anything right. We should find other excuses for not turning the internet over to the UN. These don't really work.

They don't have to play, we will still continue to do what is right. It will show what the U.N truly stands for.
The moral of the story is, nothing you said had to do with the subject at hand. As for myself, I don't want the U.N taking my rights away. If you don't think that will happen, take a look at the countries that control what people say, read and write.

Eviction notice..... Can't we get some NY landlord to EVICT the the UN, PLEASE! That land has got to worth MILLIONS if RE-DEVELOPED into something USEFUL.
The UN is nothing but a den of spies anyway, theres got to be something in the DMCA and Patriot Act or Copyright law that would allow them to all be evicted.
I am so sick and tired of the UN and this debate.
The internet is the invention of the DOD/APRA, its OURS! OURS! OURS!
Don't like the rules, build you own! You whined over GPS and WASTED how many BILLIONS of EUROS to DUPLICATE another system? Go right ahead and see how many takers you have for your net.
Some places should be damn thankful I don't decide who gets connections! Theres are whole slew of countries that would get domains yanked, connections pulled permanently. Theres a reason my .htaccess file is 56K!

Re: The truth is...Well First of all, im not American. ,But i support that the 'control' of the main root-servers or whathaveyou, should remain with the U.S.
why? you ask. simple, they invented it! its a fact, kudos to them.
its their ingenuity, their brainyness, their intelligence, i dont think ANY other country would 'give-up' the control, if they invented this technology! no way, it would react the exact same way the U.S. has.
and who is the U.N anyway? just a bunch of countries that have their own interest first, ahead of anything else. the countries in the U.N. are just intimidated with the words biggest superpower becomming more powerfull than ever. but it is inevitable. so what. the U.S. is not Iraq, or Iran that we, the rest of the world have to worry.
but i dont think it is necessarily safe in the hands of the U.S. namely, the FBI and the CIA. they are without a doubt, the biggest and most powerful snoops in the world, its their job. what do people with power want most? more power! nobody with power will voluntarily relinquish that power.
BUT.....the thing is, so they have control, so what???
what will they do.....shut down the internet? never gonna happen. and its not like it cant be built back up anyway.
this is like Atlas carrying the Globe, which is getting bigger and bigger.
in fact, if anything goes wrong with those root-servers, they will be held solely responsible and liable.
anyway, i predict, in the future, im thinking 10 years or so it WILL be shifted to the U.N. or something like it.
it dosent matter jack shit to me anyway where it is. live and let live i say.
