Re: Evolution It still takes me 30 minutes to put a EBAY ad on for a spare car part. When is this high speed internet going to happen. |

RIAA incensedIn other news, the RIAA announced today it has filed a lawsuit against the Fermi National Laboratory. An RIAA spokesperson released a statement that read in part,
"...(we) intend to prosecute anyone who mentions the words 'DVD' and 'downloading' in the same sentence. People don't realize how this kind of talk is taking away the multi-million dollar vacation homes of our record executives". |

Re: dont forget!said by maartena:"640k memory ought to be enough for everyone". Bill Gates, 1981 on releasing a new version of DOS (version 2.0 if I am correct) and its memory support. And that was in a time many PC's only had 256 or 512 kbyte of memory. Yeah, except that he probably didn't say it. » www.usnews.com/usnews/bi ··· sivu.htm» tafkac.org/celebrities/b ··· ory.htmlDOS could address 1024 KB of "Conventional Memory" but the machines used the upper 384 KB of it. Memory managers like QEMM or EMM386 allowed you to map expanded memory into that area (where DOS could reach it). So it wasn't a DOS limitation, it was a hardware design decision. |

Turn it up to ludacris speed!!Ludacris speed!, not ludacris speed, YES, turn it up to ludacris speed!! Now if servers like speakeasy had backbones of this size, we'd see the true potential of our measly 15megabits FIOS lines Make with the bandwidth already, I'm dying over here.. |

Re: hard drivelol... Even a ramdrive is limited to the speed of the RAM. On my high end system I can get a little over 5GB/s, but most mid-range dual channel systems achieve 3-4GB/s max. |

Re: Bah to you allsaid by Karl Bode:Yeah but you know, if like Mozilla or Google were to say they were creating a giant cheese city in 2020, people around here would all be cartwheeling and clapping. So there's more to it than just skepticism, because the skepticism seems only applied sometimes. Like in the case of next-gen network research. Or Microsoft. Oops, M$. |

Re: EvolutionI have no hostility towards technology and it's constant improvements. I think we continuously want something bigger and faster. I for one always want a faster machine with all the bells and whistles that are possible. I think we get use to the idea that things can always improve and be better and we expect them. The disappointment would be to know that the fastest machine can not get any better. That there are no more improvements that can be done. No more upgrades. This would be a sad day. |

Re: hard driveAye. And there's the issue of quickly running out of ram. What good is infinite bandwidth if you have a finite amount of storage room? |

this helps me how...?wow, so a few high energy particle physicists can sit around the nerd circle and inhale-snort-laugh on how much bigger their balls have grown due to their transfer speeds... |
