Re: 'Too Smug' is a good descriptionWell hell then, couldn't then your average x86 PC be upgraded to "BMW status" simply by loading on Linux? I think the whole "BMW" arguement is moot if it's simply a matter of software. A luxury device isn't exactly luxurious if it's the same thing as "the standard build", but with an improved facelift. Personally, if I ever bought a BMW and it drove exactly the same as my old Toyota...I'd ask for my money back. I pay luxury prices for stuff to work, or perform better when it comes to computers - not for cosmetic facelifts. |

Re: Actually....said by JacksGhost:Everything you have mentioned is why my PC sits collecting dust and my Mac works for me everyday. I don't feel like spending time on maintenance when I can use my time for other things. My PC is used everyday and my time is not spent on maintenance. Only maintenance is done maybe once every 2 weeks which is just check for spyware, which it never finds any, just cookies, sweet delicious cookies. |

And WTF does an engineer learning have to do with me choosing what parts I want? Great for them that they went to school to learn, that still doesn't change the FACT that I want what *I* want in my machine and not what some company THINKS I should have. " And this cat uses windows.. Welcome to the collective. I do use Windows and not ashamed to admit it. |

said by geekamongus:Obvious solution: Buy the cheaper one, just as you would for your PC! You would think that would be the obvious solution, one part is designated for PC only, the other is designated for Mac only. The Mac only part is the more expensive out of these 2. |

What do you think a Lexus is... same models as Toyota, just with wood trim, leather, and a different badge. Same thing about with a Nissan and Infiniti. Ford and Lincoln. Honda and Acura. |

Re: There are a few viruses for Mac OS Xsaid by sporkme:If I remember correctly, it had something more to do with low-level graphics access than where it sprinkled files. I installed everything as an "admin" user, but the games just refused to run as a normal user. That could be traced to a poorly designed graphics driver. Most of the games that I've had complain about being run under a Limited Account, couldn't have full access to certain directories, parts of the Registry, or certain OS privileges. But yes, running in a Limited Account in Windows is a pain. |

Most of their models I see a better-performing engine and other parts. It's not all wood trim and finish...but that is a portion of the price difference. A Mac and comparible PC performance are no different in their quality (and function) of parts, yet there is a premium paid for Macs. I'd just hope aethetics isn't entirely the explanation for the increased cost. |

I'd just hope aethetics isn't entirely the explanation for the increased cost. Aesthetics is certainly part of it, but for me, the biggest part is ease of use. It simply works. Take a brand new printer or scanner or digital camera and plug it into a Mac. Bam. It works. No fussing about drivers, no installations, no rebooting. It just works. I think people are willing to pay a little more for something they know (or have heard) will give them the results they are after. As with many things, you do get what you pay for. |

Ya gotta be kidding me...unless 10.4 was a revolutionary difference from 10.3 as to how it handles device installations. Working with the G5s, each of the printers/scanners (Epson and/or HP) required an installation package to use...much like other OSes. Sure, Mac OSX works, but so do the other OSes out there, running off non-Apple produced computers. (not just Windows, of course) |

Well, wish we had your printers then, lol. Apparantly downloading the one-file Apple installer to run the printers was a "hard task" that tech support (us) had to install them. Pretty easy, but I'd rather not hafta haul out altogether to set up every little thing. |
