now its time for the race to see how high we can push the mail box. A little pointless but so was the guy that tried to fill his g-mail account. |

Who cares??Who needs more than 2 gig? If so, for what??? Why don't you run your own mail server if thats the case?? Oh well, COOL, they have unlimited now. |

Re: Who cares??I will never go back to Yahoo. They mysteriously deleted my mailbox and all of my email with it. My account was still good and would let me log in. I contacted their support twice and they said the problem was fixed twice. This was untrue. Plus, I love the conversations in Gmail. |

That happened to me twice with Lycos mail (remember them?) and once with their webspace. They rebuilt the standard mailboxes, but my personal folders were lost. The webspace simply vanished without warning. I've since made their service my personal spam trap. |

Gmail is still better for meGmail has many more useful features for me than Yahoo. Hopefully, gmail will follow suit. |

Yes, G-mail is my best friend. I have had e-mail in there going back to 2004, and it is still in there. I love their interface, and I don't get spam. Screw Yahoo. They are a bunch of yahoo's anyway. |

Download mailI guess I'm old fashion and don't trust these services. I do use them but I use thunderbird mail client and download all messages. Do people still do this? Or is this like ancient history? The only advantage I see if you use multiple systems and want to have mail on each. But I still like the security my mail is not up there and I back it up locally.
There was one thing that was a real pain with Gmail and mailing lists. It seemed Gmail would throw away my own messages to the list. It somehow recognized it was generated by me and discard it. I ended up have to have two accounts, mailing on one and subscribed on another. |

Yahoo is fine.No need for a mail server, no need for an email client, no need to have emails cluttering up my HDDs. YMMV.
Yahoo is unlimited now? Cool! |

Make Sure You Sign Into Yahoo every now and then or they will delete your account. It happened to a kid I know who went to fight in Iraq and came home to find his Yahoo ID was deleted because of inactivity. Their advice, create a new ID.
Forever is not a long time according to Yahoo. |

Strangely, I had the opposite experience. I signed up for an account somewhere in the neighborhood of 2001, used it for a while due to having troubles with ISP-provided mail. Changed ISPs, and I quit using Yahoo mail.
Several years passed and I needed to use Yahoo Instant Messenger for something. Lo and behold, my account was still active. I haven't checked the e-mail account since then, but I use the IM feature all the time. Trillian pops up a little message every time I get an e-mail to the Yahoo account and I can see that I'm still getting a daily dose of spam to that mailbox. |

Yay for yahooIn the world of webmail providers yahoo is above the rest imo. The interface, spam filters, and reliability cannot be beat. Gmail also has my nod for being the first to introduce large storage capacities and the only one to provide free POP3 access. Hotmail on the other hand belongs in the garbage heap. After transitioning to yahoo I had not used my hotmail accnt for a few months.. and the next time I went to log in to it I had found my account frozen and all my old mail messages deleted! Not that I was too stupid to save my old messages, but just that hotmail was so quick to prune stale accnts is somewhat scary. Further Hotmail likes to incorporate these fancy features that only work on IE (Thanks to prop. M$ technologies) These IE specific features only serve to confuse users who are starting to use better browsers such as FX. Hotmail users also face "busy" times where they cant even access their accounts. |

Attachment size limit? What is the attachment size limit, doesn't make this offering very competitive if you can't move around video or other high bandwidth content. Would be nice to see at least 100MB attachment size limits. |

Simple loop?Open 3 yahoo accounts. Set the first to auto-forward anything to the second one. And then set the second one to auto-forward anything to the first. Then send an nice 10MB email to the first one from the third one (or from your Gmail account...), thusly injecting 10MB into the loop. |

Backing up?I use Yahoo Mail and it's great. I tried GMail, but I prefer folder's to labels, though it would be great if both could be used.
My main issue with Yahoo Mail is that there is really no way to archive all your old mail and store it locally. Yahoo does allow you to save your old messages, but the problem is that it doesn't work very well if you have a lot of messages as it tends to time-out on the request. Also what it does is save each message in an .eml (Outlook Express) file and zip it up. Importing that into something like Outlook or another email program other than Outlook Express.
I really wish Yahoo or Google would implement IMAP4. I'd jump on that in a heartbeat.
Oh and I already said this before when all the email providers jumped up onto the 1 and 2 GB bandwagon, but at my current rate it would take me 20 to 40 years to fill up my Inbox with 2GB. So going infinite isn't going to cost Yahoo much if anything. |

Re: 2GB....Some might say this a desperation move on Yahoo's part since Google is close to 50% of all searches. Plus Gmail has Docs and Spreadsheets with PDF and HTML output, which is certainly at hit against Microsoft. If you associate those Docs with others, you can collaborate. Most don't need the fancy stuff in Word and Excel. I have Gmail apps, with 10 gigs of storage, that acts as a single email client for up to 5 people. |

from the article"One caveat Yahoo makes is that the offer is for personal use and subject to guidelines against abuse that apply to Yahoo Mail. No one can build a business giving away unlimited storage to other consumers using Yahoo Mail, executives said." |

Unlimited Aye?Unlimited would be nice, and I've never had any qualms with Yahoo. I actually have had an account for many years and there's mail in there from the beginning. Can't say the same for Hotmail, after 5 years, all of a sudden my mail started crappin out and not showin up. For the big balloons though, I actually use 30gigs. , and there's no bundles or ad lists involved. I'll keep Yahoo and see if they keep their word. I'm curious to hear the results of the 1TB dude too! |

Re: Simple loop? That would be all fine and dandy, and I was just about to try it, but upon signing up, it says "0% of 1.0GB" of space. I'll still test it out to see if the whole loop thing works, and how fast it hits its limit. (Or before they ban the account, lol.)It seems one can't set forwarding unless they upgrade to Mail Plus, which is $20 a year. I'm not wasting $40 just to test it. Someone else with money and time on their hands can. |

Re: 2GB....I would not say that the Google Office Apps are a hit to Microsoft. The Apps are pretty rare-bone, feature-less and does not work a good part of the time. I tried to import my resume to Googles Word Processor and it came out as a series of overlapping words. |
