have your cake and eat it to?"AT&T meanwhile reminds everyone they're exempt because their U-Verse service isn't technically CableTV"
Yet they use immanent domain laws to put the fugly boxes in people's yards without compensation because, they claim they are a utility. (IE the phone company) but technically its for CATV which is not a utility.
Talk about double standards! |

So whatVerizon had to share their DSL lines with competitors and Comcast didn't seem to mind that too much while the telcos cried like schoolchildren.
DBS, telcos and cable are all 'picked on' and Comcast is still posting record profits. Get over it. |

Raise Cable Rates?Oh yes, that's it, the FCC imposes new rules so get your own back by raising Cable Rates. How bloody childish. All they are going to do is antagonize the FCC who will just put more restrictions on the Cable Companies. If the Cable Companies put rates up high enough people will start ditching Cable TV as the crap and drivel that's on there now won't make it worth paying. I'll stick with OTA TV and anything else I'll get from iTunes or other means. |

Re: raising ratesUVerse is priced in the same area as cable so how do you figure it will be cheaper? You do know that Comcast owns a lot of networks and controls the price on how much AT&T pays per customer? They just raise the rates when their contract comes up for renew. AT&T doesnt pay you don't have TV. Either way Comcast would win. |

I realize that is trendy to hate Comcast here......but they do have a point. Technically there is no difference between a traditional cable plant and what Verizon is doing other than terminating the fiber at the home instead of a node on the pole. I don't mind a little government oversight of big businesses that have natural monopolies (or duopolies in a best case scenario), but this is government intervention at its worst. Singling out certain companies and imposing regulations on them while letting other companies skate by giving them an advantage in both equipment and support costs. Frankly AT&T, Verizon, DirecTV, and Dish should be made to seperate the security from the tuning and let everyone compete on equal footing.
And mark my words, no one is going to be busting down the doors at Circuit City, Best Buy, Wal*Mart, etc to spend hundreds of dollars on something most consumers would just assume lease from the provider.

Hey - to be fair, Cable modem service was ruled an information service while DSL was ruled "internet"... So, on that base, I have to side on AT&T (I think I'm gonnna barf, Lou) in that they are not a "Cable company" or "TV provider"... same goes the other way for VOIP service not being a telephone. |

Re: I realize that is trendy to hate Comcast here...The problem is AT&T's boxes don't "tune" into the channels. It does an IP stream. Making a cablecard work with that is most likely impossible. |
