Got it hereBut haven't had a chance to test it out yet.
I'm very happy about this. I'd say this is probably the #1 most requested gmail feature out there. |

A dumb questionI'm showing my ignorance, but which would be the preferred mail protocol, IMAP or POP3? My phone supports both and I've been using pop3 for a while. Any worthwhile difference to make me switch? |

IMAP. The mail stays on the Gmail servers and isn't downloaded to your device taking up space. Plus, it's always sync'd regardless of your access method, messages are consistent with respect to the "seen" flags and you don't have to download that file with the attachment to get to the rest of your mail. |

Any worthwhile difference to make me switch? IMAP keeps all devices you use in sync with your email, plus it will be compatible with the labels you created. Pop allows one device to download the message and if you check with another device it won't be available. More Info here: » www1.umn.edu/adcs/guides ··· pop.html |

Works great for me as well! :)Very nice upgrade! I have IMAP with my hosted email solution with Site5. Now, I am considering moving my email over to Gmail because of IMAP support. Gmail with just POP3 was a big turnoff for me. I like the idea that all the mail is kept on the server by default. |

Wither the context sensitive ads?Just wondering... how will they display those context sensitive ads Gmail is so famous for if you access via email client instead of the web interface? |

Pretty easy setupI downloaded the new version of Thunderbird and followed the instructions. I think I only made a couple of mistakes. All in all, about 5 minutes of setup. |

Re: Wish they would change the size limit.Actually it's 20 megs. » mail.google.com/support/ ··· pic=1517If you send an email to a server that doesn't support anything over 10 - it will bounce back to you. |

Business modelHow is Google going to sell and feed ads through IMAP? More SPAM? Ads incorporated in the messages? Start selling your email to the highest bidder?
No thanks! |

Gmail Blog» gmailblog.blogspot.com/The gmail blog talks about them giving users access via IMAP. They are trying to roll it out as fast as possible. |

You are currently using 2731 MB (62%) of your 4358 MB
and the fact that I'm so proud means that I'm a bigger nerd than I every imagined. |

If you're managing a large number of messages and you can't remember if you responded to an email, it can be a big deal.
If POP work fine for you, there is no reason to change. But IMAP offers the advantage of being able to reset the message flags and keep the messages in one central location. |
