[General] DSL Contract Expiring. What to do?

My 12 month SBC/Pacific Bell DSL contract will expire in June. I currently get about 1500/225 using a splitter and I'm 13,000 feet from the CO. I pay $29/month currently + another $16 for the phone line with caller ID.

I rarely use my landline phone. I use the $10/month unlimited in state VOIP service from BroadVoice via my Comcast HSI (3300/200) connection.

My DSL is primarily for my kids computers and their gaming device (XBox).

What should I expect when my contract expires? How high will SBC want to raise my DSL bill? Will they renew my contract at the current $26/month for the Express Package? I don't really need my landline. Are there any DSL providers that will provide DSL service in Sacramento without the phone too? Thanks for any help.

If you do nothing then they will not change your agreement that will probably go to $39.95 and you will be on a month to month with no obligation and can cancel at anytime.
If you call you can re-up a new contract at a reduced rate, probably $29.95 with a year commitment.
You have kids, I am not familiar with Broadvoice, how "aces, straights and flushes" is their 911 service?
If it is as bulletproof as the landline then you could price Covad type SDSL services to see if they can beat what you are currently paying for ADSL.

If I were you, I would look into upgrading to the 1.5 to 3mps down expert package. It will cost you the same as what your paying now and have twice the bandwidth.

I thought 1.5-3 cost more than 30 bucks?

Yes. It costs at least $39.99/mo or more if you don't have other qualifying telco services to be part of a bundled price.

But if they DON'T do anything about signing a new contract at either their existing service speed or a higher speed, they WILL be paying $49.95! That maybe what you were thinking.

Edited: Mo-to-mo rate.

As far as I know, you cannot get SBC dsl without their local service. Right now, the renewal rate via website is $26.95 with a one-year commitment. If you do nothing, they will bill you at $49.95 per month. Be aware, that even if you renew immediately, their rigid billing system may charge you the out-of-contract rate for a couple months while they process your order.

You could choose an alternative dsl provider, but remember they still require you to have a local telco. If VOIP works well on Comcast, why not just use them and dump SBC completely? Is gaming that bad on Comcast?

hmmm...you know what. a few months ago, my dsl contract with about to expire. SBC was nice enough to send me a notice saying that my contract is about to expire and they gave me an option of renewing it for one more year for $26.95/month. i went online and type in the URL they gave in the notice and renewed. that's it. i've been paying $27 bucks every since 01/2004. my speed package is standard plus 1500/128. fast enough for me. why do you want to pay $39 for 3000/384 expert plus? think about it. what r u gonna do with it? download a bunch of warez, dvd images, cds from newsgroups?
