DSL Lite: Still around?Ok, friends of mine are still using dial-up and are only paying @$10/month. They just don't have an immediate need to be on the web outside of work.
Now, is DSL Lite or any of those "flavors" still being offered in Toronto area?
I am trying to get them to upgrade just a bit, while not blowing their monthly budget.
Thanks! |

Only Bell Sympatico offers DSL Lite. Mind you, its slow as molasses, 128/64, has a 2GB cap, and costs a whopping $30/month. Better stick to dialup. |

Better stick to dial up? 128/64 over a dedicated connection is infinitely better than 56 which occupies your phone line and costs $10-20/month.

If i were paying $10 for 56k, I would not pay $30 for 128k, and be told how much I can download. But that's just me. |

First, how did I miss that on Bell's website? LOL. I am now viewing the offer there. Mea culpa!
Secondly, there isn't too much difference in pricing between that and HSE in my opinion, but the DSL Basic pricing might be within their reach.
Let me see if I can convince them! Thanks again. |

Some smaller DSL providers are offering 3mbit DSL for around $30, but that usually requires you purchase or have your own modem already. And the service isn't exactly top notch from some of the smaller providers either.
Just warn your friends, if they do get DSL Lite from Bell, to watch what they download. 2GB is not a lot of bandwidth. |

Oh yes, thanks. However, I don't think they will be downloading much: they don't own MP3 players, etc. In fact, I just reformatted and gave my older Win 98SE computer to them and loaded only the basic Real and Windows Media players for them. Besides, if they do need any downloads, I can do that for them here and burn a CD/DVD, right? |

Just be careful - DSL Basic is like a gateway drug. Once they realize how wonderful that fast, always-ready Internet is, they'll come back wanting more. |

If you don't mind buying your modem and caps, there are companies like OntarioDSL that offer one heck of a good deal. (like 3Mbit, 10 Gigs limit for 25.95$ if you're a student or 26.95$ otherwise) |
