Re: Lingo VOIP- $19.95 unlimited US, Canada, Western E

Ok guys.. I have a company that has been wholesellers worldwide for VoIP. This means they have the technology. Since Bush deregulated they have joined the quest for the 80 billion shift of wealth, predicted by the analysts. They are doing this by networking. What better way? I have had my system for a couple of months and we are ready to go to the Wall Street Journal with our news.. If you want to join with us let me know.

Re: g.711 codec?

Your message might confuse some. Yes, the g.711 is used for faxing. Yes, the g.729 is used for voice calls. No, the g.711 isn't used for all activity with packet8.

VoIP light on Primus ATA box has been going out all afternoon! I have to cycle it to get it back on. I called tech support and they made no mention of a wide spread problem and now I am on perpetual hold.

It worked great for about a week and now this...

Anyone else have this?

i've been having the voip light go off today too. a reset will make it better for a few minutes. it's seems to be ok now and it's been about 15 minutes. let's hope they got the problem fixed...

Add me to the list of people having issues with them. I don't like not having a phone. I am calling them tomorrow and cancelling, i'm not wasting any more money on this shitty service.

Re: Lingo VOIP- $19.95 unlimited US, Canada, Weste

I signed-up with Lingo only 2 days after they announced; while there have been some early start-up problems and spotty Tech Support, the service has been up 100-percent of the time with today being the sole exception. I've found that Lingo is responsive IF you let them know about your problems. In my case, I documented my problems in e-mails to customercare@lingo.com and cross-posted some of those same problems here in this forum. What I have found is a very supportive community of users and a few "behind the scenes" Primus employees all willing to pitch-in to help.

Just thought I'd add another alternative point-of-view.

Thanks crodgers79, it is probably great advice to do things by email rather than by phone. You then have a record of the issue if you have problems later. I will agree the service has been very reliable but I have given up on customer service to get anything done right but again I did call them not email.

Here's a Lingo refund update:

I cancelled 2 1/2 weeks ago, and today they say I will have to wait another 30 to 40 days for them to refund the $39.95. This is after they confirmed safe arrival of the Lingo adapter.

Is this an exceptable business practice? Most rebate checks arrive sooner than this. Are they trying to milk a bit of the float?

Laserjobs,

My pleasure.. For what it's worth, I did an extensive Google search on "Lingo forum" and "Primus forum" and it seems that most, if not all, of the hits come back to dslreports.com or broadbandreports.com (this same site). Now, put 2-and-2 together - if people are looking for info on Lingo and they do a Google search, where do you think they wind-up? Answer: Right here! The beauty of that is that I can say unequivocally that a handful of Primus/Lingo employees do monitor the forums here, except for the fact that their company policy prohibits them from responding directly to customers through any means other than their in-house Technical Support or Customer Care systems (phone, e-mail).

I would say that there are two things they could do to improve their service NOW:

1. Institute a "System Status" web-page on their web-site so that customers experiencing problems could look in and see if it is a system problem or particular to their environment or geographic region. They could also put-up a page with "Tips and Tricks" and link it to this page.

2. Have one or more Tech Support personnel monitor and respond to these forums. I know that, I for one, was sorely tempted to get onboard with BroadVox Direct just because their CIO, Jeffrey Williams, took the time to answer all of the technical questions posed here..were it not for the difference in price, I probably would have chosen BroadVox Direct.

On a positive note, I can say that I do have knowledge that Lingo is working to bring new features and services to their customers - I think most Lingo customers will be happy that they stuck-it-out with the company once they roll-out some of the new features (don't ask mne what they are, because I honestly don't know, but I imagine if you've watched BroadVox's roll-out of new features, we Lingo customers are probably set to receive some of those same things, but that's just speculation on my part).

My best to all the other VoIP users!

Problem continues despite it working for 12 hours last night. Around noon mine started dropping again and now it's every hour or so. This has made working from my home office pretty difficult.

Lingo support now has a recording that basically says they are aware of the problem and that a fix is "coming soon".

DavidCollantes

Same here. During the day it has been on and off (VoIP light and not service, just fast busy signal), right now it is on, and it has been on for about an hour. This is getting ridiculous; I called the 'tech support' last night and they told me they were aware of the problem and thanked my for my patience. I do not how much longer I will be able to keep patient...

Run on Sniffer (or other packet capture software) on a PC on the same segment as the outside of the ATA - for me that meant sticking a hub (not a switch) on the outside of the ATA and putting the Sniffer PC there.

Just got service from Lingo three days ago, had some problems but seems to be working well now. Just curious does anyone know what European countries are included in the unlimited calling plan.

Thanks,

This seems to be the case w/ Compaq (HP) as well. I guess you won't be buying compaq/hp computers either.

Re: Lingo VOIP- $19.95 unlimited US, Canada, Western E

I've been a Lingo customer for almost 30 days and I've been unable to have my local number transferred to my Lingo account. The reason? Firstly, they just never did it and never told me they weren't (even though I completed the info on my application), so I assumed the transfer was in progress when it wasn't. Then when I did call to find out the status and was told I had to fax an authorization form, their fax reception would cancel every time. Each time I called customer service about the fax not working they denied there was a problem, but when I emailed tech support they admitted the fax wasn't working but that it would be fixed soon. That has happened twice with emailing tech support and it's been almost two weeks and the fax still isn't working. After each of my 8 phone calls the customer care rep said they would be emailing me an evaluation form. Not one form has arrived. I'm beginning to think that they don't want to be evaluated. I was thinking of canceling but it turns out if you use more than 500 minutes within the first 30 days they charge you for the overage (even though I have the unlimited service) I may have to stick it out for the next two months to at least take advantage of the "first three months free" and limit my losses.

I am having some of the same problems with porting...My advice to people trying to port ---- DON'T

When I called Lingo prior to signing up they said that they could port any number and I have 30 days to cancel once I sign up if for some reason the port won't work. I was like what the heck....Then I sign up and at the end of 30 days they keep telling me it could take another couple of weeks. Hmmmmmm.

Suspect Device: Tell them you aren't willing to wait that long so you are going to call your credit card company and reverse the charges. I am pretty sure that the reversal process takes longer, but it nails the offending company with fees, so most places will act quickly if you tell them you will go that route.

Good to know! Thanks jschelm.

When I cancelled with Vonage, it took 1 day to process the refund back to my card. I would definitely consider Vonage again in the future when shopping for a VoIP provider.

I was willing to give Lingo another chance in the future if they change their CODEC to G.711, but not if they continue these practices.

Re: Lingo VOIP- $19.95 unlimited US, Canada, Western E

Experience with codecs that tells me the G729 is causing your problems. G729 uses a voice-modeled compression algorthm, but directtv and tivo are sending modem tones. Codecs like G711 are PCM based and will pass low-speed modem tones. My brother-in-law has Vonage and it works with his DirectTV and Tivo.

Lingo should offer G711, 90kbps is nothing these days . . .

I have both vonage and lingo, so can compare g.711 and g.729. Frankly, the difference in voice quality between the two is minimal. Virtually unnoticeable.

Hi
Are you having any issues with the Lingo ATA? I have Vonage and decided to try Lingo (because of the international number availability) and am on the 2nd ATA and it still won't connect. both are behind a firewall, the Vonage works fine everytime I reboot it. The lingo one sometimes keeps the WAN light on sometimes not and if I am really lucky I get dial tone.
Have been 'conversing' for the last couple of weeks with support tech but thinking its not that stable.
