- The fact that your company's IT hadn't properly locked down user rights on the workstation tells me that someone doesn't know enough to properly implement security and should NOT be in an IT administrative position
- The latest CERT and Dept Howneland Security advisories recoomend using anything BUT IE for browsing the internet, something a competant IT admin would be aware of
My guess is that you simpy didn't use the corporate proxy for browsing and their firewall detected outgoing traffic from your PC (IP/MAC addy). Then the admin panicked, not knowing what was going on, and used a bunch of jargon to try to scare you. On the other hand, if she doesn't know about alternative browsers, she's probably pretty inept. No way for me to know for sure without meeting her, but that'd be my diagnosis based on what you've told us....
