Bell Long Distance Rates

I was under a long distance plan with Bell which included a $4.95 monthly charge plus the rate for a long distance call at a reduced rate.

Since I had been using my cell phone to make long distance calls (a very agressive plan from Verizon in the States), I decided to terminate the Bell long distance plan.

Bell kept me: they terminated the $4.95 monthly charge and said they will only charge me .07 per minute for all long distance calls [including States], 24 hours per day.

Anyone else know of this plan? I couldn't find it on their website.

Sounds like one of them "churn reduction" thingies. They're applied at the discretion of the CSR. If you threaten to leave they can loosen the purse strings to keep you as a customer.

Sympatico does it a lot.

Ok, I wasn't sure it was "legit" and thought perhaps not all of the information was conveyed to me.

The next bill, due this Friday, will tell all!

it is a retention/winback offer...there are even better deals if you have a bundle (long distance, and at least any two of DSL, expressvu or wireless service).

I can suggest even better long distance...

$0.05/min, billed by the 7 second increment... that's 5 CENTS A minute... And no network fees/charges. Just what you use.

www.rapidtel.ca

Company based out of Ottawa, and I've been using them for over a year now, and absolutely no problems. No "special number" to dial (just pick up the phone and go)... they've got fantastic service guys.

If anybody wants to sign up, let me know, and use my name as a referral (I can get a $5.00 credit for each person I refer!! And the same goes for everybody!!)

OH.... one more thing. There's no "Switching fee" to move your long distance to them, either. Nothing hidden, just pay for what you use!

Thanks for the info.

I really want to go the VOIP route, but I would still have to keep my Bell landline for Sympatico DSL connection, no?

Something tells me I am straying off topic....

Best Deal: 1000 anytime minutes from Bell for $5.95 including the $2.95 network charge. That's .00595/minute or six tenths of a cent (6/10) per minute.

CONS: it's a 2 year contract and you need other services from Bell, it's NOT cheaper at the end.

you end up saving money, which is the bottom line. And if you have other Bell services, and are willing to make a commitment (Bell never ends a deal but always grandfathers customers), you can save mucho donero.

calling cards are the best deals.

i have one north american 2.5 cents a minute

to toronto its way cheaper though... WELL under a penny a minute (150 hours on a 10 dollar card) i dont how its so cheap, but it is...

just make sure they have a) local access numbers b) no connection c) no maintenance fee d) no service charges

there ARE "no bullshit" cards available!

Bell did it: my new bill is correct. All long distance calls 24 hours/7days (including States) are now .07/minute with no monthly fee.

A nice savings. Now, about those other plans????

Breaks my heart that I'll be losing it when I move to Calgary, just when I'll need it more than ever.

the bundle plan is great.

choose bell for your LD provider (you already have).

bundle your sympatico dsl, expressvu or mobility (you will need any two of those three) together on your phone bill.

get the new digital bundle LD plan.

$5 per month (includes the $2.95 network charge).
1000 minutes anytime calling canada/usa.
5 cents/minute if you go over your 1000 minutes.
bell's best rates for overseas calling.

Then just use sprint in Calgary Shaner..their $20/unlimited is great..and their service is good too, the only reason we're back with Bell was because at the time we wanted ADSL, and now we can't bother switching back again. lol

Thanks jeffer for the extra tips. I am pleased I got my Bell rates down and getting them lower is always a consumer obsession, right?

Remember I have my very aggressive States cellphone plan which I still use most of the time. Nevertheless, for the times that I do pick up my landline phone, I now won't have second thoughts since the pricing was lowered to .07 from .25 and that $4.25 fee.

How I got hoodwinked into that plan originally, I can't remember..or has Bell just gotten more aggressive.

Anyways, I am happy now for the time being.

bell is getting very aggressive with their LD rates...LD revenue has been declining significantly over the last few years...they decided the time was now to leverage their capabilities to stop the bleeding.

I don't know if its an option right away...but have you thought of a VOIP option? I'm not sure if any of the voip companies have a local London exchange but...it might help at least in the short term....

Just a thought
