jasonk101 posted : Actually, I just order Mediacom@home today after I posted my first message. I'm going to use their modem and sort all the rest out later. I can't just plug in the modem. It doesn't work that way.

SB9 posted : My rate for Mediacom@home is $29.95 a month plus $10 for modem rental. I don't see why you can't use your own modem. Are you currently with Mediacom? And if you are, what modem are you using now, a rental? If you are on Mediacom@home and using a rental modem plus have the motorola then just plug in the motorola and see if it works. If it does then call them and find out where to take the rental and make sure it shows on your next statement the you are no longer renting a modem.

haze9 posted : Your profile says you have Mediacom@home. So why did you go thru all that? Why didn't you just tell them you already had their service and then say Bye-Bye? And what is this rate of $29.95? Is it something that they offer or are you just figuring that other cable providers knock $10 off if you own your own modem so they must do it too?
--
Jury; noun - A jury determines which client has the best lawyer.

User bought cable modems with Mediacom

jasonk101 posted : First of all I would just like to say that I HATE MEDIACOM. Most of their cable systems are in rual areas, so they think they can get away with giving their customers crappy service. They have got another thing coming.

I was called the other day by a customer service rep. to talk to me about Mediacom@home high speed internet access*** (lol). Blazing speeds, yea right. They told me that they would give me a free ethernet card, free install, and one month free service. Sounds great, but just one question. Can I purchase my own modem so I can get the lower rate or 29.99? This is where the problems started. The rep. said yes, and gave me the number of the Mediacom@home support group to call for more info. So I called the support ground, and waited, and waited, and waited, until finally, after about 50 minutes, I got through. The rep. their said, that they did not have any way of using modems other than the ones they supplied. They use RCAs and Motorola/GI modems. He went on to explain that they input the mac # when creating a persons account, and that they can't do it with modem that they don't own. I told him that I would give him the mac # off my modem ahead of time so that he could input it when he was creating my account. By the way, I have a Motorola DM 100. When I told him that, I got the run around. These people must think we are stupid! The modem is DOCSIS compliant. Why wouldn't it work? They just don't won't to give me a reduced rate. Please send me comments on the technical end. I don't see any reason why this can't be done. Thanks for reading this.
