Re: Verizon sent 2100 & 2200..which should I use?

Heh. I've just been through the same thing. Check out »Use 2110 AND 2200 together?!?!?

and also this from the Verizon FAQ »Verizon DSL FAQ »How do I use a router with the Westell 2200? A few things were not clear to me at first:
1) It says to log off the 2200's utility (what you get from going into 192.168.1.1) so I just ended the browser
2) An implication for me was that I did not need to use the CD to install my Belkin router (I happened to get a free Belkin router as well which supports 802.11g, so I have not (yet) used the Linksys one they sent me) so I would assume this holds in the case of the Linksys router too.
3) It was not at first clear to me, but when you move the cable from the 2200 to the router, it goes into one of the LAN ports 1-4, not the WAN port of the router (the modem and router will end up talking through the latter, but for that step, the FAQ is calling for the 2200 to be disconnected).
4) Once configured, you can't get into the 2200 from the router, you need to plug directly back into it (IOWs 192.168.1.1 only work when plugged directly into the 2200).
5) Since you're going wireless, you'll eventually need to disconnect the CAT* cable to make sure the other NIC(??) picks up the router.

HTH. FWIW, VON has still not sent me any labels to return any unit. I'll watch my bill but I suspect they don't know what they are even sending the multiple units (I don't know how, since I would think the whole thing was completely automated).

You can access the 2200's internal web pages through the router. You need to disable the router's PPPoE and set the router's WAN IP address to 192.168.1.x with a subnet of 255.255.255.0.

You'll need to reconfigure the router's PPPoE settings afterwards, so make sure you know your password, etc. My Netgear RT314 router allows me to restore the configuration with a simple FTP upload.

My router (Belkin F5D7230-4) has an Internet/WAN section. There, you click on "Connection type". It allows Dynamic, Static, or PPPoE. Normally I have PPPoE checked upon which it asked for User name, password and MTU setting. It I click on Static, then it wants IP Address, Subnet Mask, and ISP Gateway Address. So I guess I'll be using 192.168.1.1 and 255.255.255.0 for the first two. But what do I use for the last one? I left it empty but it's telling me it wants something.

The modem is 192.168.1.1, so you need to chose something else for the temporary WAN address, e.g., 192.168.1.2. For the gateway, you should be able to leave it as 0.0.0.0 or blank.
