Flicker Hello, I'm having a slight problem here. I came about a AOC monitor and pluged it into my system . The far left and far right of the screen seems to move back and forth quickly. The middle is fine. And there seems to be a slight humming noise. The monitor I had hooked up before did not have this problem. I'm running W98 se.
Thank you

Is it a new or old monitor? Try changing the resolution and/or refresh rate of your video adaptor and C. They should all be under "display properties". |

For old monitor, I would lower the refresh rate instead of upping it. My 0.02. |

There's probably a good reason it was in the garbage. Methnks it was doing the same on that other persons' system. Perhaps a weak transformer or coil in the monitor. |

I'll try the lower refresh thanks. But heck I can't pass up a free deal. I mean some people throw stuff out that they can't fix. Hence why I am here . If I can fix it shame on them.
Thank you |

Look in the monitors control panel for a vertical focus setting and adjust accordingly. My Monitor used to do the same thing (MAG XJ770 17") until I adjusted those 2 settings.
They might be called something else on your monitor or you might not have access to those settings at all if your monitor is 15" or smaller....
I re-read your original post and now I see that your problems are more severe. That hum and blurring at the edges means that the vertical hold adjustment is going bad. One day you'll turn it on and....poof. No picture and then it's back to the dumpster you found it in for it.... This is why you found it there to begin with.
Don't know what size it is, but if it's less than a 19" it's not worth getting fixed, as that will cost close to the price of a new 17" monitor.
AOC is a Korean brand of monitors that was popular in the late '80 & early 90's as a low end alternative to the Sony's and NEC's of the day...Not bashing but it's not a very good brand in terms of quality.
Guess you now have a choice to make.....

you can pick up great deals on 17" as well as 19" monitors out there now. I just got a really nice 17" Emachine flat screen for my sons computer that i built for him for $109. It works great and a really good crisp clear picture.
For me I would rather spend $100 and have something that works good than to have to pick something out of the garbage dumpster and start spending money on it day one. Besides, I would be really be worried about a monitor that someone pitched in the trash. There has to be a reason someone pitched it. Nobody just trows out a perfectly good monitor for no reason.
spending $100 for a monitor doesn't mean your cheap but searching through garbage dumpsters might.
good luck,

I thought it was worth a shot. I live in a Quote RICH Unquote neighborhood and them rich people will throw away a washer if the dryer goes bad just to make a set. I guess it will grace my tree lawn . But what's weird is that if I'm in a game which is most of the time I don't notice it.
Thanks for your thoughts.. |
