FYI, I've been pulling a 66.233.x.x IP for a long time (months and months at least), and have never seen a speed test over 1000/110. I don't think your momentary bump was IP related, unless you somehow got put on a commercial package for a little while.

I am hoping it was testing in this area for an upgrade to come soon. But since I only ran 2 tests before it's possible I made a mistake or just got erroneous readings. I have run plenty of tests this morning and nothing reads over 1024/128.

So no one in Eldorado Ar got any speed increase. As far as I know I am the only BBR member in Eldorado or even in my County, so I have no way of knowing if anyone else was up and testing at the same time in my area.

edit: my IP address also changed back to 66.76.xx.xxx from the 66.233.xx.xx one.

I apprecite you looking out for others, but I have been using those same tweaks since as long as I can remember.. I'm talking 4 years or so.

You should always do your own research and backup your registry... but don't know it before you try it.

So if you truely look at what I got with the overhead factored in I'm pulling in 550KB/s down and 72KB/s up which I know is just right at the maximum for my service.

I have no idea what the 'Doctor' is you are talking about. The only two things I use are those registry additions/changes.

I appreciate the replies.. and yes everyone should always be careful. As I said back up your registry and analyze the files yourself.

For those of you who have not seen the speed increase or want to make sure you have your systems tweaked correctly.

Do the following.

First and formost.. install the following tweaks for your system:

»members.cox.net/www/tweaks.zip

Inside the zip are two files for NT/2K/XP and one for 95/98.

Double-Click on both of the NT/2K/XP files which will import the information into your registry, you can right-click and choose edit if you want to look at the content.

For 95/98 you will see that one file is an .ini file, you will need to right click and choose install for it, the other file is a .reg file which you just double-click and it will install the information into the registry.

After you have done that, unplug you cable modem, for a minute, and while it's unplugged reboot your PC that you have just accomplished the tweaks on.

When you reboot the PC, plug back in your cable modem.

You should have received any new data which was pushed from cox. If it doesn't work.. you can ask cox to manually push data to your cable modem, but I actually came home yesterday and did what I just stated and my speeds had increased from 370KB/s to 500KB/s downstream and 35KB/s up to 62.5KB/s up.

If none of these steps work, you probably haven't been upgraded at this time. If you are on cox-internet, good luck to you... I've been at someone's house with the service and it was painstakingly slow.. this was a year ago back in Arkansas. I use cox.net out of the Panhandle area in Florida.

So he's saying we've got a chance :) I would be inclined to believe that Cox is just stringing us along here in FL but since some of you guys have gotten the speed increase I am beginning to think that I *may* actually hear something from them later this year.

Every Cox "promise" ("we're taking care of it, don't worry") has proven completely empty to date. They won't announce dates because THEY HAVE NO INTENTION of upgrading M.A.C. at least. (Someone, anyone, PROVE ME WRONG here?)

Don't count on it.
