Re: [OT] Aztech DSL305E flashed with DSL305EU? Pos

I can attest to that. My Singapore bought 305E has been flashed with 21.6.3(Aztech FTP under 305E) that is similar to the DLF file found under 305EU.

But, the 305E can be switched to router mode in any case right. Better to connect to a WiFi router with 4 port and get the same functionality anyway.

hmmm, i got mixed answers here. anyway, come to think abt it, an adsl/cable modem router is nothing but a modem with built-in switch/hub. say, when ip traffic comes in from the phone line, the modem will then convert the signal to ip format signal. Then with firmware control, it will then router the ip traffic out to the internal network.

Coming back to the 305E case, i think this is possible, at least in theory. Just connect the RJ45 connector at the 305E to one of the ports on a switch/hub, and PCs to the hub.

Well, unless someone has done it and can provide a step by step instruction, i ll probably just stick with what i have now, as i am pretty new to this 305E. Probably just get a separate router to share my net access. If any of u have done that b4, maybe can share your knowledge here. thx

OK...sorry that Im not firm on the earlier answer...

the things is that you need to know is that a ADSL MODEM ROUTER is NOT a modem + hub/switch.

It is entirely different architecture. You CANNOT use a modem + switch to act as a ADSL ROUTER.

ADSL ROUTER typically have Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Network Address Translator (NAT) and Domain Name Service (DNS) server (proxy),firewall features but SWITCH does not have all those.

Basically those above are needed to route TCP traffic. But a switch CANNOT route TCP/IP packets! SWITCH can only route packets between LAN. A ADSL MODEM ROUTER can do that plus routing LAN traffic.

Conclusion, you cannot use a normal switch or hub and connect to a pure adsl modem for it to route WAN traffic

thanks for the explanation. i was browsing thro the aztech site for Malaysia market, and i noticed that there is a instruction manual for converting bridge modem into router mode (»www.aztech.com.sg/malays ··· tm)using 305E. So, in that case, the 305E can actually be flashed with another f/w that supports this mode, and this 305E can be used as a modem router.

Another question I have..in aztech website (under singapore one), it says "DSL305EU Firmware(For upgrade from 21.6.1 and 21.6.2 only)". Does this mean if you f/w is not 21.6.1, say u r using f/w 20.0.6, u cant use this fw to upgrade?

ok basically a bridge mode will make your modem 'dumb' as a pure modem

while router mode...as it name suggest...make your modem as a router ....

if you have an external (3rd party router) then you need to set bridge mode to the modem as you can't have 2 router in the same system...

basically if the manufacturer said so that the modem can be change from bridge to router mode...then what you have is a router modem...

hope the above answer your question

Dun mess with that f/w. Just download the firmware whose link I gave for safety's sake, it might be the same one but I've flashed mine with no problems. I've connected it to a Linksys Wireless B 4-Port + Wifi router set to dial the 305E in router mode using Streamyx, no problems. Rock solid now.
