d_l posted : I had Trellis Coding enabled to stop errors from household appliances. I've attributed a 10-sec burst of near and far end errors and a loss or noise margin readings to a reset. These bursts happen nearly every night between about 10:00 and 2:00. One burst per night.

I think SBC uses Litespan 2000's in their RT's.

vey9 posted : --but then my DSLAM reset--

That's odd. I wonder why and I wonder why that would affect you or your CRC errors. I have CRC errors, but that is beacause of theage of the wiring/distance from the CO. The Dslam wouldn't have anything to do with that.

I now have a Lucent "Stinger" rather than an alcatel and I have fewer errors than I used to . . . just during thunderstorms. Do you know what dslam you have?

d_l posted : The CI reference guide for the 645 is here: »www.zyxel.com/support/su ··· ex_f.php It contains a little (very little) more info about each command.

My experience changing the specific settings for the Samsung chip on my 645 had limited success. For two days, the settings that I changed suppressed CRC errors caused by impulse noise, but then my DSLAM reset itself one night and those changed settings are no longer stopping the errors. :(

d_l posted : I think all methods involve adding at least a switch or a hub between your router and the modem and then other equipment such as a second NIC to your computer. »Viewing Modem Stats?

I currently use a variation of Bill_MI 's two-router method rather than the method that I posted in that link. What I had posted was a bit unstable and had to be "brought up" manually by making the DSL connection and then making the second link to the switch. The two-router variation that I now use is completely stable. I needed this because I collect line stats from my modem continuously. I've been debugging DSL line problems, CRC errors caused by impulse noise, for months and think that I've finally eliminated them with Trellis Coding. :)

d_l posted : Do you know if your modem has an Alcatel or Samsung chipset? If the Samsung, you could switch on Trellis Code Modulation to try to minimize the CRC errors from the lightening impulse noise. I think this could stop small error bursts from distant strikes, but if the storm was directly overhead, I doubt that it would stop errors.

Do you re-start the modem by power cycling or a software reboot from the CI menus? If the later, a monitoring program could automatically restart the modem after the modem reached an accumulated error threshold.

vey9 posted : I have a Sprint 645M+ (in bridge mode) as well as a Netgear RT314.

Here is the problem . . . Frequent thunderstorms are driving me nutzo. What seems to be happening is that when the modem gets too many errors, it doesn't drop sync (all four lights stay on), but nothing can be pinged and no activity is present.

Only way to "fix" this is to manually restart the modem. During a thunderstorm, I sometimes have to restart it 10 times in an hour.

I used to use an Efficient Speedstream 5260 and when it got too many errors, it dropped sync, the router saw that and began "redialing" until it was connected again.

Is there a setting in there I can change to make this modem do the same thing? Cause cable is looking mighy good.
