Do you get the speeds you pay for ?Spurred from another thread, I'm quite interested in hearing from others.
What speeds are you paying for from your WISP ? (ie 1.5/384)
What average speeds are you getting from your WISP ? (ie 1600/392)
Are you happy with what you're paying for ?
For me, my rate is CIR 1.5, and MIR 8. I usually see between 4 and 7 Mb/s - with an average of say 5.5 Mb/s. It is a synchronous connection, so I see those speeds up and down. Yes, I am happy!
What about you ?? |

Well my isp has a relay point on my tower so its free but I used to get around 3mbit/s U/D. Now I get around 1.5 at good times like now at 4:00 am. During the day more like 100kbit U/D and get disconnected every 10 minutes.
I've called and emailed them lots of times. They say "the network is being worked on at the moment" or last time I called "yeah there is a problem we have some people working on it now". Yeah right... that was weeks ago. |

My WISP caps my bandwidth to about 500kpbs up and down during weekdays. In the evening and weekends, I usually see 900-1000kpbs.
For the price I'm paying ($70/month), I'm only marginally happy. Comcast recently turned on service in my area, and I may switch when my WISP contract is up. |

I'm paying $40 for 768/768. Most of my speed tests are right around 700/700 day or night. I'm pretty happy with that. I only have a local cable company as an alternative ($45 for 512/128 with actual speeds of 300/80). Until the RT up the street gets turned up and DSL is available the WISP is the way to go.

Currently paying 39$ monthly for unlimited use and 1.5Kb up and Down. On average I get the advertised speed but on occasion when they are fixing equipment my speeds can drop. For the price and no contract I am happy. I would be happier with DSL or Cable, but I can't get it in my area. |

nope...on average, nope...average speeds...
900 kbps down / 300 kbps up
advertised connection speeds: 1 MB down / 384 kbps
ping rates on average: less than 15 ms to tower, 50 - 100 ms to popular web servers (google, yahoo, etc.); however, there are periods of intensive use by other subscribers where ping rates are between 300 - 700 ms, while better than Satellite, it kind of reminded me of Satellite Internet...which sucks!
Unfortunately, my WISP has admitted that they've over-subscribed one of their POPs (point of presence) and is almost complete with construction and configuration of a second POP on the same peak where they will move over 1/2 their customers to the new POP, which should make their service more reliable. |

» www.texasairnet.com is the WISP I started using for our Midlothian Texas office (just south of Dallas/Ft.Worth. They promise 512 kbps but I'm seeing 600-700 up and anywhere from 1200-2800 down. Price per month: $49.99 I called concerning installation and within 6 hours I was hooked up and running. So far I give them 2 thumbs up. |

I pay $50/mo for 500 up and down. Avg speed 400 down 300 up.
We live out a ways and the options were few so I am much happier now, compared to the max 33k dialup I used for 2 years. |
