time.nist.gov should work equally well, although it doesn't hurt to try an alternative.

It worked with time.nist.gov last night at 11pm. Who really knows what the problem was. As for the MOBO problem, when i hit the power button to start it up it won't recognize my HD, after i hit ctrl alt del, it then recognizes it and loads windows. I've got the latest bios, and my HDD is the master on the primary ide channel. I've also tried cable select on the HDD to the same problem. I have to do some good research for this one, as its really weird.

The Stratum message is a part of NTP. Why we get it when the clock tries to use time.windows.com is anyones guess, but I think that that timeserver is probably over-run and the stratum message happens as a punt, or maybe because of some other network problem.

NTP has a general worldwide problem with too many people trying to use top level servers too often

Read about it HERE

The long and the short of it is to set your clock to use pool.ntp.org. Your time will be almost as good or maybe even better than with the other servers.

I've been using us.pool.ntp.org with good results and I have pretty fast ping times there as well.

...and I don't get any stratum messages in my logs

time.windows.com is the default time server setting in Windows XP (Home and Professional) and initially in Server 2000/2003 until you convert the server over to a DC.

Why switch to something else when MS provides the best solution?
