glmclell posted : well, in theory, you could make it work if you want to fiddle with INF files.

the USB to IDE interface contains among other things, your usb device IDs; VID (vendor ID) and PID (product ID)... windows matches these codes with codes in the INF database, and comes up with the 'zip usb cdrw device'

so what you do is make up a 'new' INF file, based on the inf file for a usb harddrive.

hehe, easy to type, but hard to do I think... you need to find a USB hard drive inf file for the same usb-ide chipset that's used in your cdrw case. snoop around other iomega inf files, you can probably find something similar there.

alternately, you could jack it into a linux box, and see if it lets you fdisk and/or mount the hard drive.

--or--

look into a new usb to ide caddy or adapter cable... I picked up a usb 2.0 to ide adapter for less than $20 recently
»www.pcmicrostore.com/Par ··· 10501935
--
Been brain-washed lately?
RouterMan9 posted : Hey all...

I have an External Zip CDRW. The Drive is longer good so I took apart the case. Here's my ? for ya...

If I took an IDE Hard drive and connected it, will it work as a external HD? The case has an IDE port and a molex connector. The output port is USB. Any ideas? I tried hooking it up to a 2K machine and it comes up as a CDRW drive but cannot access the HD. The HD works fine any other way. All help is appreciated.
--
Krusty: "I coulda pulled a better cartoon outta my a-a-HEY KIDS!" Huhuhehaha!
