is for you! If you will do this, we can help you much more. I can't make it any bigger or brighter for you than it already is. Please slow down and breath long enough so that you can help us help you, OK?

We must have the answers to those 11 questions before we can/will help you. You may only think that you want to know the best RWIN (or whatever) for your line, but it is not that simple.

Helpers: Bump this up for as long as you like. I will try to get it locked at the top line. Until then, I will delete the "bump" posts so that it does not get too long.

Noting here that if a thread is moved to Tweaks from another forum, and the poster follows the "move" path, They may not be able to see the Tweaks forum header. Please direct them to the lower post in this thread that states the 11 questions.

Excellent idea about getting it locked at the "top line". I do have to say though, alot of the new members have been doing much better than others in the past! The only other thing you could do is have the *HERE* fill up the entire screen before the people can get to their questions (lol). I know its not a laughing matter to the regulars that come here on their own time and have to pry the necessary information out of an individaul wanting help. Its like they want to get $1,000 worth of tweaking, but only willing to give everyone in the forum $1.00 worth of information!
If people would "just do this for us" it would make the forum move along more smoothly! RamblingRam (Ed)

Does this mean that we are not to help any posters until the questions are answered, even if we can find the info from other sources, or the question is simple enough that we need no further info?

No. Not you guys anyway.;)

It simply urks me that some Newbies won't take the time to read a little, especially when I've made it as obvious as possible. After all, we do this for them.

Please do not post your results in this thread.

For all who may not be able to read all 11 questions because of screen size issues, simply copy and paste these into your thread, and answer beneath each one:

1. A Tweaks test from this page. Simply post the tests URL. Please make yourself pingable by lowering firewall, etc..
2. The fastest of the 3 speed tests from this page. See FAQ on copying test results if necessary.
3. A Line Quality test from here. This could take a while.
4. What type of Internet connection you have (DSL, Cable, Wireless, Satellite) and who your ISP (Internet service provider) is.
5. If DSL, do you use PPPoE connection software? (Do you have to connect to the Internet?).
6. If PPPoE, which one? WinPoet, Enternet, RASPPPOE, etc.?
7. Which operating system you use? Windows 98/98SE/ME, etc.
8. What your advertised speeds are (ask your ISP).
9. If your PC is on a network, and/or using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).
10. If you use a NAT router (Linksys, Netgear, etc.) for sharing your connection and if so, the brand and model of your router.
11. How far you are (if using DSL) from the CO (Central Office). Keep in mind that further than 10,000 feet can significantly degrade speeds. Click here to find your distance, or simply ask your ISP"

We truly need all of these answers. If there are some you don't know, please call your ISP to find out.

I especially like the ones that say something like: "I just got cable--make it faster". PERIOD Or "My speed was faster 3 months ago. What's wrong?". PERIOD

DOH!!!!How much bigger and brighter and flashier can the "BEFORE YOU ASK FOR HELP...." message be?

And I'm sorry, as I'm fairly new here, maybe its not my place to say this, but it really irks me when someone posts a question, gets all kinds of answers and suggestions and then just disappears. "Could you do this and tell us what happens?" and they never come back. What's up with that? I see that ALL the time. I just don't get it. Why ask in the first place?
