anon posted : You cannot discuss the financial stupidity that brought this situation on, without including the millions of dollars spent on unqualified and uneducated consultants that couldn't do their job, but just kept on sucking Red for expenses and consulting fees. Being recommended by Comdisco should have just gotten them in the door, but Red/Prism continued to pay them long after their incompetence was clear. Not meeting any deadlines should have been a clue!

So, in your winner's list, you need to include e-Loyalty who walked away much richer and un-scathed by their own inability to deliver.

JiF posted : and you guys still continue to blame each other.
Every time I call Red means STOP, the person on the line had someone to blame. First Bell then provisioning, then tech support, then sales. It must be all Comdisco’s fault for my NO-DSL for 5 months? Yeah that must be it then. The company that poured money into a startup company that couldn't even design correct dsl layouts.
Well, Red is closing by the end of this year. No more 56k, no more dsl, no more suffering of people who want descent service.

Oh by the way, did you stop to check out ALL of the negative reviews of RED on this site?

Give it a look...

RED MEANS GO....GET YOUSELF ANOTHER ISP

anon posted : This was a long time coming...I was there almost from the beginning and always knew this was going to happen. While the people who did the actual work were great, incompetent upper management (and we all know who the "responsible" parties were)is what really killed this company. Anyone can spend $12 million with a good agency on an advertising campaign, but actually getting the job done is a completely different story. And blaming it all on Bell Atlantic (Verizon) is just dodging the issue. EVERY CLEC has the same problems w/ the incumbent. We all know what they are so I won't bore you w/ the details. Many of them can only be classified as deliberately anti-competitive (granting BA the right to sell LD was a big, big mistake); while some of them are merely the result of making the PSTN do something it was never really intended to do. Nevertheless, how you deal w/ these problems is what separates the successful from the failures. Even with all that COMDISCO money behind it and all the NORTEL engineers camped out in its NOC, the company still couldn't make it. Why? Most of upper management was chock full of people w/o any previous telecom experience running the show...the few dedicated and competent managers were ignored or fired and there was so much money to waste on things like $15,000 worth of dishes for the executive kitchen...add the fact that many of the incompetents were truly evil, COMDISCO is run by someone too inexperienced to see he was being lied to all along...and the result is a total loss probably a lot greater than that which they are claiming (I've read estimates as high as $600 million), as well as all the ingredients for a real interesting Harvard Business School case study...anyway, to all the really great people w/ whom I worked, good luck!

RED means STOP now....

anon posted : Excuse me, for correcting you.
As another former employee ( other than my good friend, Dave ), I would like to add a little bit of information.

You can be as sarcastic as you want about RED, but frankly,
it comes down to top management and their direction.
People are people, they do what they can, as much as they
can, and what they are told to do.
I would be pleased to work with the people I worked with,
I wouldnt blame them a bit. Given a chance, I'll hire every one of them.

Blame COMDISCO, if anyone.
How do you burn "half a billion dollars"?
Buy a small telco startup, pour buckets of money into it,
buy inadequate systems, dont keep track of how often Bell
Atlantic screws you, give the mgmt an open check book,
market the hell out of yourself, dont worry about
efficiency , customers, -then blindfold yourself,
rearrange the furniture and turn out the lights, then RUN
as fast as you can....

And now the winners and losers:

Winners: Nortel ( they sold the huge contract, 33 cities. )
Bell Atlantic ( they sucked RED dry for installs.)
Original Transwire folk (cashed in, then left )
Anyone who worked for RED, and understands
the value of their efforts.

Losers: Whoever buys out them out.
The book value of RED is $375 million, I will
guarantee that it will be sold for an "undisclosed
amount", so low that it will be embarassing to
Comdisco. Try under 200 easy.

Otherwise, good luck to everyone out there that now has
to get a job. Be proud of the job you had. You stuck in
there when things got really rough. Mention Comdisco on your resume, they still have a good reputation out there
despite their inadequencies.
Best wishes,
M.

JiF posted : Its about time RED went down the drain and its lazy employees were laid off. Its also about time COMDISCO realized what a stupid investment they've made. Probably 99% of their DSL orders were scr*wed. up. They didn't want to work for their paycheck.
I signed up on March 27th and cancled August 30th. During that time, I recieved 4 calls back (placed about 30) and signed 7 new contracts. Red employees blamed bell atlantic as well as their own departments for being so incompetent. During that time frame, I was told different things from one customer service rep to another, most of which were lies.

Im just happy no one else has to experience what I and other red customers have.

Good luck finding new jobs "ex Red employees."

anon posted : As a past emplyee of RED (2 weeks yesterday), I am happy that I got off the ship before it completely sank. The company has been having trouble for a while, which was totally obvious to each and every employee there. So I was not surprised to hear the news today. It is sad to see many of my old co-workers without jobs, however, because of many internal issues, this company was destined to fail. Good luck to all the inside sales guys in Dallas. They were, I feel, the only good thing going for the company.
San Antonio is doing me good boys (for those of you that know me). Take care. I'm out.

Dave
