Re: Verizon says i'm not qualified for what I had?
Well, sludge, I called today and actually stayed on until I got an answer. It seems my little CO out here is still frame relay. I told her that for three years I have consistently tested at 1.4/360, so frame relay wasn't possible. She checked it out and said yes, we are frame, but they put line cards on to get us to 1.5/384. Apparently they aren't willing to do that for $34.95.
It's possible they'll still do it for business accts, so you might try that. I didn't bother. The folks I talked to seemed to think I was just being difficult to actually mind that they're cutting my speed in half. So I just hung up and ordered Comcast. I got 3.0/256 from Comcast at $30/mo for 6 months. Hopefully Fios will be here by then.
Seems to be the thing to do, switch to cable that is.
I called Verizon again. Same old same old. This area used to be Bell Atlantic, until it was bought out by Verizon, and I've heard that the difference between good service by Verizon and bad, is if it's Verizon area or Verizon bought Bell Atlantic.
It'd seem like they're loosing a good deal of customers, due to the speed issue. Expecting a customer to stay with DSL after such a cut is presumptuous, and fool-hearted. The biggest issue as far as their assumption goes, in my opinion, is the nerve to switch a two-year customer down to a lower speed when the consumer requested, and was told to be allowed, a speed increase. Ridiculous.
I've made the decision aswell, I'm going to bet ordering RoadRunner tomorrow. 6 months at $30, no contract, 3/384. Doubt FIOS will be here by then, but maybe something else will be. Even if not, it's only $45 a month after that.
I called Presidential people, no help, I called technical people, finally got someone helpful who knew what he was talking about, he looked at the diagnostic numbers from the modem (arniture or something) said they were all excelent, talked to a billing representitive, who said my loop length was 8.5k feet, but ran it again and got over 18,000 feet. I'm just sitting here the whole time thinking, wtf. What kind of business are these people running?
And the worst part, no one knows anything about the other department. Goodness.
