ToDrag posted : being that you are using ICS you do not want your router to use the 192.168.0.1 ip address, that is assigned via ICS to your NIC on the host computer. Try manually assigning an IP address of 192.168.0.x, where x is above the number of computers you will be connecting to the network. IE if you have three computers that you are wanting to connect (and no other devices are using an IP address in this group, my laptop uses ip address 192.168.0.3 for my 1394 device) then you could theoretically set the router to IP 192.168.0.4.

Good luck and happy new year,

Todd

Spinnaker posted : What are you using for a firewall on the host (and laptop)?

I see you mentioned "mr softy XP firewall" on both...

You should be able to use it on your Host's Satellite connection (don't use it on the Host's LAN adapter)...

Do you have SP 2 installed on the PCs? just wondering if you have Windows ICF (SP 1) or Windows Firewall (SP 2)

I know if you have ICF (SP 1) on the laptop, it will kill your ability to share folders on the LAN...

I think that DNS error, "res://c:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll\dnserror.htm" was caused by a firewall blocking access to the dns server which I believe was at 192.168.0.1

The PCs are on a new subnet now... Try turning the firewalls off and then back on. Try turning on the host's firewall first and see if you can browse from the laptop. If that works, turn on the laptop's firewall to see what happens. Again if you have ICF on the laptop, I know it will kill your ability to share folders unless you open some ports.

If "mr softy XP firewall" gives you trouble, you could use ZoneAlarm Pro on your host (you have to buy it) because you can tell it that it is installed on an ICS/NAT gateway, and then put ZoneAlarm free on your clients.

I have a DW6000, so I don't have a host, only clients. I use NPF 2003 and put the 192.168.0.0 subnet into the trusted zone so I can share folders out on my LAN.
