[ Brighthouse] Multiple accounts at one address - revisited

Anyone have any new news on multiple accounts at one address? About 2-3 months ago I called BH asking them to add a 908 1/2 to their list so I could get RR in my own name. I haven't heard anything from them (yes or no). Dialup is getting extremely irritating, along with BellSouth's newsgroups.

Now given the 5MB downstream upgrade in the CFL.RR network, I want to try to set this up even more!!!

You can always try EarthLink high speed cable Internet. EarthLink high speed cable is available on Brighthouse.

You can set up an EarthLink account in your own name and that will be on their files but, they will bill the address of where the service will be used from. That basically means that the bill will go to the account holder of the cable.

Also, you may be able to get EarthLink to send the bill in your name.

EarthLink will be your ISP and as far as they are concerned the person who's name is on their file is the account holder of EarthLink high speed cable.

Re: [ Brighthouse] Multiple accounts at one addres

Observe:

The answer to your question is, yes. I was doing this last summer. I needed one modem 24/7 for upstream, and we all know what that will do to the rest of your network :/ So I ordered Premium on another modem and Time Warner simply put one modem on my main account, and created another account with my name again, just spelled differently. Are they suppose to do this? I don't know, but I spoke to enough people and I finally got what I wanted. Good Luck.

Also call EarthLink. Their phone numbers can be found on their official website at www.earthlink.net

The EarthLink customer representatives will be able to help you with this. They can set up your high speed cable Internet account with Brighthouse.

AOL has stopped offering broadband service to customers about a year ago. AOL actually did their own billing for cable & DSL.

AOL now offers BYOA (bring your own access) software for $14.95 which can be used with high speed Internet.

EarthLink is your best alternative. They can get your high speed cable Internet in your name on their files. Plus they are much cheaper than Brighthouse. EarthLink is $41.95 a month.

EarthLink has the same speeds as Road Runner basic. And EarthLink will be getting the upgrade in January which will be the same as Road Runner basic. Plus they have more features than Road Runner.

I have a question. My owner already has a cable line. Can I use a line for me using Earthlink cable ? Or Should I need a separate cable line ?

As long as the signal is there you should be able to use the existing line. Problems occur when you have to many splitters having to split that connection. Just make sure they check your up and downstream levels to ensure a good return path having both on the same line.

Yes, I was able to get Earthlink to set me an account.

When Brighthouse called to schedule the appointment, they noticed the account was in someone else's name. They refused to set the service up. Once I explained the situation, she went ahead with the setup.

Here's another update. My dad got his BH bill today, and the Earthlink was included in that bill. Upon calling Earthlink (EL),(actually, i used the online chat) they told me that they DO NOT bill separately for cable, that is it included on the cable bill. When inquiring about why I was mislead, I was offered no answers.

The whole reason for me getting EL was because they would send me a SEPARATE bill, not just an amount included on the cable bill. It could just be a slip and EL's chattechs aren't capable of fixing it. I will call EL and then get back with everyone.

If they don't do separate billing, I might as well go w/ RR.... EL is $41.95 a month compared to RR's $49.95, but RR I think is a bit better in service.

Re: [ Brighthouse] Multiple accounts at one addres

When you go with Earthlink for your cable modem service, the only thing you get that's EL is the following:
EL IP address
EL e-mail & newsgroups
EL software

EVERYTHING else is handled by the cable company. EL does not handle billing or anything else. Even the modem comes from the cable company. When I switched from EL to Road Runner I kept the same modem and all they did was change my IP address to a RR IP (not my choice...my employer offered to pay for my internet, and for that to happen I had to be with RR). If you have some kind of problem and the problem is not with e-mail or newsgroups, EL will tell you to call the cable company. I found that out real quick when I started having connection problems at one point. I never had problems with e-mail or newsgroups, so whenever a problem would pop up I would just call Time Warner and not even bother with EL. Basically, EL is just piggybacking on the cable company's infrastucture and equipment. The cable company takes the payment and sends EL their portion of the payment. If you want seperate billing you'll have to take it up with the cable company.

Another thing to note...if you're with EL and decide to switch to Road Runner (or cancel your cable modem service completely) and you don't want your EL account anymore, you MUST call EL and cancel your account with them. The cable company does NOT notify EL that you don't want an EL account anymore. All the cable company does is tell EL that you've canceled your EL cable modem service, and the EL system automatically converts your account to EL's standard dialup service @ $21.95/month. I didn't know this until I got a statement in the mail from EL saying "you owe us $21.95". I called EL and got everything straightened out and didn't have to pay anything.

Can you give another update? Will EL bill you separately?

I'm in a similar situation myself where I need to have high speed Internet in my name and not the same name as the master account holder of the cable bill.

I seem to recall seeing on EL Cable's web site some verbiage saying that they would do exactly this. Let's see... Found it:

Well, I called into EL and talked to a supervisor. He informed me that the agent who told me this info was incorrect, and that they were sorry for the inconvenience. I was then given a credit for a full month of service ($41.95) when the 3 month special ends.
