Re: network glitch and woes

said by PLOSEE:

I have similar issues between my pc's Two of 6 are linked through a generic switch, not a hub.

I find if I do Start|Run \\192.168.X.X before moving files it helps. I realize this is not a fix, but it may help get you in the right direction
the main way i connect to the other pc is to do start-run- then the pc`s name but against all logic using my machines lan ip did speed it up a lot (600meg file used to take 6 hours + this time took 40 minutes(well its still transfering as i type but its not saying 400 minutes remaining for once)this must be a software prob then ? maybe with sp2? it would be nice to work out a fix instead of a bandaid though the temp fix is much appreciated if a little confusing and has saved me what ever a switch would cost as i was literly heading out the door to get one after i checked my email !!! lol

thank you

ok i have gone out and brought a switch hub a sitecom 8 port one and now have a wierd problem if i copy a file from pc 1 to pc 2 600megs it takes 30-40 minutes if i copy the same file but start the transfer from pc 2 it takes 117 remaining and goes slowly down (aint stayed watching long enough for it to transfer as i estimate it`ll take 3-4 hours atleast the 117 does not go down in minutes) i`m going to reformat pc2 in the hope of killing this gremlin in about an hour does anyone have any other ideas what it may be ?
