TheHeadhunter posted : I've had a monitor on PatMedia since Saturday. Everything was clean until late this afternoon (Mon) when for about 3 hours packet loss was around 4% and ping times spiked 3X a bit after that. I'm being a bit "nearsighted" about this, but hey, I'm testing. On the positive side, speed tests about 10:30pm were even better than during the day.

mvk40 posted : I have been quite a happy Patriot customer. Service has been rock solid for a while now and customer service is very responsive and competent. It helps tremendously to have great people like WCD in this forum that are very knowledgeable and service oriented.

I wish, however, they would increase the upload to around 1 MB/sec for my VPN use (but that is for a different thread). A side note, the digital TV is very good and VOD is great (watched Chronicles of Riddick over the New Year's weekend). The picture was clear, the sound was in Dolby Digital, and there was no pixelization or interruptions (I do not yet own an HDTV so I can't comment on that). In short, I am a very satisfied customer. Hope this helps.

mdr5 posted : Headhunter.... something to consider. As usual people will usually speak louder when they are commplaining and be quiet when they are happy.. This being said, Id bet if everyone who had patriot made a review you would see an overwhelmingly good response for them. I for one have had them since the became patriot and have nothing but good things to say about it. Im running the 5mb service and couldnt be happier with it. Some bumps along the way, but theyre always right there to take care of it.

TheHeadhunter posted : Thanks for the encouragement... I've had it with Sprint, too, but I just finished reading some pretty disconcerting reviews of PatMedia at »Company entry - Patriot Media.

So far you're the only real fan... I hope you're right! I'm not disconnecting from Sprint for a while, til I'm sure I'm not going into the fire from the frying pan. But it sure would be nice to switch!

ikon posted : I don't know if this will help in your decision, but I'm in Whitehouse Station and recently made the switch from Sprint to Patriot. Let me tell you, I have never looked back! I was fed up with Sprint's slow speeds and high prices. I cancelled my DSL service, got Patriot and ported my Sprint number to Packet8's VoIP service. I am officially Sprint free and couldn't be happier! :D

Best of luck with your testing!

ikon posted : Yup - just put another network card in your "PM/PC", plug that into your LAN and you should be able to connect to both.

Now, I'm not exactly sure how Windows (I assume that is what you are using...) will select which interface to use for Internet access if both connections are active. My guess is that it will go with the interface with the public IP assigned to it (connected to your Patriot modem), so you should be alright!

TheHeadhunter posted : Okay, this is a bit funky, but my intentions are good. I've been using Sprint's DSL for years, but I'm not happy with the price/performance. So I'm testing PatMedia's 3/512 service side-by-side. (So far, PatMedia is shining at half the price.) I'm trying to guild the lily, as they say, and would appreciate advice if possible.

My setup is a small LAN on a Linksys wired router connected to the Sprint DSL modem. I disconnected one of my pc's from the router and I'm using it to connect directly to my new PatMedia/Moto cable modem while I do this testing. (For reference purposes, I'll call this pc the PM/PC.) Everything works fine. Here's where I'd like to go above and beyond...

I'd like to put the PM/PC back onto my LAN via the Linksys router without disconnecting it from PatMedia, and without disconnecting the LAN from Sprint's DSL modem. If this is possible, how would I do it? (I'm guessing I need one more EtherNet card.) I don't care whether the other pc's can connect to PatMedia, as long as I can keep using the PM/PC to continue testing PatMedia. (The PM/PC has stuff on it that my other pc's need access to... thus my dilemma... Not that I can't survive without a solution since this test setup is temporary.)

Thanks for any suggestions. I'm pretty astute about this stuff, but my LAN/WAN knowledge is lacking.
