What if you're simply required to fill out an on-line form requiring 30 seconds? What if you only have to call an 800 number? What if you only have to send an email? Again, I haven't read the EULA so I don't know how you're expected to collect. For all I know you have to fly to Washington to get your money back.

If one assumes worst case in this situation and expects that $5.00 is reasonable compensation for a user who doesn't have adequate tools to fix problems caused by Beta testing, then that user probably shouldn't be beta testing. I wouldn't skydive without a backup 'chute either.

Most individuals recognize the risks when beta testing and accept the possibility that something horrible could happen. MS offers $5.00 for your trouble. That's $5.00 more than any other company whose software has hosed my PC. Some beta testers see the mere opportunity to have a hand in program development as compensation enough.
