Re: [Vonage] Who will be the biggest VOIP ProviderI predict that Vonage will be the most powerful VOIP company over the next couple of years, until a big company steps in and buys them out. (I.E Verizon)

Most people on VOIP now are early adopter types and are willing to go with names like Vonage (that's who I am with), Broadvoice, etc. However, the average person will say what is a Vonage- I am not going to put my phone service with someone like that? This is not to say they ought to think like that but I think they will.
Therefore, the average non-techie will will go with a trusted brand name- i.e., AT&T, the Bells (they will end up co-opting and owning the VOIP space in 5 years tops along with the cable companies, just watch), plus the cable companies.
There is plenty of much cheaper competition like noted here, but the cable companies are having no trouble whatsoever signing up people in droves at higher prices. I tried to talk someone who was with Time Warner digital phone at twice what I pay for Vonage to go with Vonage and they were very wary and not able to do it- I think, unlike the people here in this forum, they are more the norm.
The Vonages of the world won't likely be around more than three years from now (it would be a miracle if they are here in 5 years)- they will sell out to the AT&T, Bells and related names of the world. |
