That doesn't matter. HTML has nothing to do with a Web Beacon.
Uh, no, you are completely mistaken. HTML has EVERYTHING to do with a "web beacon". It's just a graphic page element, rendered dutifully by your browser's (or e-mail client's) HTML engine.

Did you think it was some kind of magic? EVERYTHING on the web is ultimately HTML.

I should add that Yahoo itself is remarkably scummy in its OWN extensive use of "web beacons" (better known as web bugs or clear GIFs) »privacy.yahoo.com/privac ··· ils.html

There is NO legitimate reason to use them, at all.

Their ONLY use is as a substitute for cookies, after a user has SPECIFICALLY CHOSEN TO BLOCK OR IGNORE COOKIES.

The fact that Yahoo uses them so extensively (inside AND outside their network) gives us a good idea of how little they respect their visitors.

The point I making is, blocking HTML graphics will not render the Web Beacon inoperative. The only way to do that is to Opt Out.

Whether or not HTML is used is immaterial.

You're incorrect, if we're talking about web beacons in spam. Blocking HTML mail display DOES "render the web beacon inoperative".

If we're talking about web beacons that Yahoo adds to the web page you're viewing, then the only ways around that are to simply turn off image rendering in your browser or selectively block with something like AdBlock.

I am talking about Yahoo!-specific Web Beacons that are used by Yahoo!, but are also used by Yahoo! outside the Yahoo! network. Since some HTML may be beneficial or desirable for users to view, it makes more sense to click a couple of times to Opt Out for Web Beacon use permissions outside the Yahoo! network. That is not to say that folks always need to view HTML; I block some content myself.

Of course, you would probably say that it makes sense to block all HTML content in order to filter out Yahoo! - fine. You do that.

We are not talking about Web Beacons in SPAM, we are talking about Yahoo! Web Beacons, at least I am. If you were to take the time to read my post and to read Yahoo's Web Beacon use FAQ, you would understand.

If you still don't agree with the Opt Out procedure, just don't do it. Do not give other folks the impression that you know what you are talking about as far as Yahoo's use of them goes however.

Folks who do not want this(these) "super cookie(s)" on their computer should Opt Out per the procedure I posted initially. Please don't try to lead them to believe otherwise.

Case closed.

fixrman , you appear to be angry with me merely for having pointed out a series of boneheaded statements on your part.

They include:
"If you have found your Yahoo! Bulk mail inundated with SPAM, there is a likely reason why: Web Beacons."

"HTML has nothing to do with a Web Beacon."

"Blocking HTML graphics will not render the Web Beacon inoperative."

"Whether or not HTML is used is immaterial."
Those patently false and naive statements are the only things I took issue with. Please don't try to lead anyone to believe otherwise.
