I agree with 'ya koo22. Verizon needs to stop "enhancing things." Things have gone steadily downhill the past month, and is getting worse and worse.

And they want me to sign up for a one-year contract?

If you look around the Internet for a list of basic SMTP commands and message structure, you could actually send mail through there manually.

The key is to see if you can telnet to the server on port 25. Go to Start->Run, type 'cmd' (for 2k, XP, NT) or 'command' (for 98, etc) and press 'OK'. At the prompt type
telnet outgoing.verizon.net 25
If you get stuck at "trying to connect" it's down. If it goes to a plain balnk screen, you have connected to the SMTP daemon, but it isn't properly working. If you get a screen with some white text about the server build, the server is up and running properly (for the most part).
