Re: Help setting up Cable!

LOL ,2 ips means 3/256 for me and 3/256 for other comp.
no sharig bandwidth thats why !!!
Issue is with the 2k machine DHCP not working.
Also still alot of games out there dont support NAT
having the 2 ips allows us to both play .
But thanx Basher for taking the time to post .
Appreciate that .
Bash me some more I enjoy it makes my day!

Dude....cable is a shared resource....your "no sharing because of bandwidth because of 2 ip's" is an incorrect statment.

The more people on the cable system the slower it goes...just because you have a "static ip" doesn't mean you will be guaranteed bandwidth.

Question: Will the Win2K machine even work...if you connect it directly to the cable modem? If it doesn't...then maybe you shoudl reinstall the TCP/IP stack...it may have been corrupted on that pc.

actually you're wrong. when you use 2 differnt ip's you're still using the same 3/256 bandwidth. t1's are 1.5/1.5 and they usually get a block of ip addresses which ranges from 1 to 256 ip addresses (sometimes even more), it doesnt mean that the bandwidth is different for each address, thus they do not get for example 256 * (1.5) for downstream, they all share the same bandwidth. as for your problem, obviously it is not with the router but with the machine itself if it is not picking up an address. i suggest you have your thread moved over to possibly the microsoft forum.
