johnsp posted : I had a Monday install. Fiber drop was run on prior Thursday. Once the ONT was wired up, the tech called FIOS central support. They registered the "MAC" of the ONT unit. 5 minutes later the POTS line was cut over. I was shocked it worked so well.

Someone jumped the gun.
Mistakes happen.

A couple of month's ago we couldn't call my in-laws.
They are elderly - we were worried - and they're over an hour's drive away. Finally we dispatched the cops....

A day later we drove over for Sunday dinner and the phone still wasn't working. No dial tone, dead pair at the NID. Somewhere in the Verizon system their copper pair had been disconnected. Curiously, a spare pair at their NID was "hot" - bridged to someone else's house phone - I used that to call in the trouble ticket. Even though it was their fault, Verizon wouldn't commit to a fix date of less than three days -- but the next day it was fixed...

JohnA posted : Seems like a rather crude and inconsiderate way of keeping you from asking to keep your copper on install day. Rip it out when they do the drop. Hooking it to the ONT wouldn't help. They didn't light it, just hung it on the wall. Complaints are in order from everyone they do that to, till they fire the clown that decided it was OK for people to be without their phone for a couple days. Very high level of liability there if someone without a phone needs to call emergency services.

SuperG03 posted : Hmm, that is very wierd. I have never heard of such a policy. Doesn't really make any sense. When I got my FIOS installed, my home phone was out for maybe 5 mins. The guy cut the copper, and plugged the wires into the ONT, and then we just had to wait a couple of mins for the line to "register" or whatever over the fiber. Has anyone else had their lines cut off a day prior?

I am not late on my bill, no problems with anything, they just said it is policy. I called to tell them to turn it back on, and they said they can't because it switched to FIOS. Don't get me wrong, I am very excited to be getting the service, but the home phone dials my alarm company in case of a break in and the simple fact is that I have no home phone.

I just find it hard to believe that they could be sooooooo stupid.
