Re: [Lingo] Call Routing

I wonder if your calls are being routed through Canada. This would make sense, as Lingo is owned by Primus, a Canadian company, and (I stand corrected by vonsen ) This would be consistent with the experiences that people are having when they call toll-free numbers (see »[Lingo] You will be charged for international portion ).

If I recall correctly, MCI used to do this in order to avoid expensive in-state call termination fees. They got in trouble when they were caught doing this to calls they handled for the federal government.

Do you have a source for this? If primus is Canadian owned, it is news to me. Primus was started by a group of ex-MCI executives in the early 90's and based out of Virginia and Washington. They're a nasdaq company (PRTL) & AFAIK, the Canadian subsidiary is wholy owned by the parent company.

BTW, they lost $10M on sales of $1.4B.

Wow, my bad. For some reason, I always thought Primus was Canadian-owned. Anyway, I still think calls are somehow being routed out of the country, based on what people are saying.

No problem, I just thought that you might have some inside knowledge. The OP's issues could be caused by routing problems, either isp or lingo. Not aware of any call handling being directed through Canada at this time.
