[Help Me] DWL-G510 just won't connect

Installed new DI-624M router. Put a DWL-G510 into a Win98 box and got no joy. Nothing. Nada. Started to think it needed upgrade to Win2K. Did that using a clean install. Got that done, then installed the DLink software and shut down. Put the DWL-510 into the box, started up and got the "Found New Hardware", tho' it said it was just an unknown PCI controller. Asked for drivers, I pointed it to the DLink CD, it installed the necessary files. Rebooted.

Win2K comes up, the card is working (but it's searching for a signal because the lights go on and off alternately). The little network icon in the sys tray shows no connection. The software appears to be installed correctly, but I do note that the Dlink utility will not run. Period...it will not run.

I won't tell you how many different times I've reloaded Win2K from scratch, or pulled uninstalled the Dlink software, took the card out and repeated their installation sequence exactly. Nothing, absolutely nothing will get this POS to connect. I have a laptop with a Belkin card in it sitting right next to the computer with the DWL-510. Connects flawlessly using Win2k.

Anyone have any suggestions? Is this DWL-510 not compatible with MIMO routers? Can't see how that would be the case here. I can't understand why this is happening. I suspect there's something going on with the Dlink Utility refusing to load. Task manager shows the other Dlink services are running.

HELP.

Most users here haven't been able to get the DWL-G510 to work with 2K and especially with XP. It appears to me to be a lemon of a card. The original poster pretty much summarized the experience of fellow G510 users here. I wish D-Link would recall the stupid things or at least provide some credible fix.

I'm a newb that just connected with the same card. I would suggest to check that the SSID is entered into both the AP (router) and the client(comp2). Use your name or whatever. It must be the same or they won't "see" each other.
If that's OK then make sure that encryption is disabled. You can enable WEP later. If still no go then try different channels. My good ones are CH3,5,6,7 for instance.Make sure any wireless appliances in the house are unplugged. 2.4GHz phones kill wirelessG. If that doesn't do it then try getting both antennas as close to line of sight as you can. If still nothing then I would take another look at the router and make
sure all the settings are correct and you are putting out a
signal. I don't know what your router is but mine can be re-set by unplugging everything from it, waiting 3 min. and
then plugging everything back in. Check w/the manfr.
Good Luck

I ran out of time to try more tricks and kludges to get that card to work. Put it in a machine at home with Win2K and regular DI-624 router. No joy.

Junk card...returning to store for credit. As an aside, I did get the computer at the office working just fine via a cable connection using an 9-year old 3Com PCI Fast Ethernet card (old 509 series) I took from a box we were throwing out. Inserted the card into the slot, closed the case, put the cable in and turned the computer on. Win2K configured the card in about 15 seconds and voila! Connected.
