[POLL] What Antivirus Program do you use? Poll What Antivirus Software do you presently use? |
|
As we are all aware, some of these programs offer both free and pay versions (as well as several variations of pay versions in some cases). The bottom line here is protection
if you use a pay version, vote in the general category but please be specific as to why you like the added features of the upgrade (Or a particular version). I am also aware that there are many all-in-one suites offering antivirus protection as part of the program. Again, please vote for the appropriate antivirus application that may be part of that suite. (I think there are enough utility suites out there that we can have an entire poll for them) Certainly, Ive missed a few choices. (Maybe more than a few!) If you choose the Other category, please be specific. Obviously, the more information you give specific to your choice, the more we will all benefit from your experience with a certain product. For example, information concerning your experience with the programs use of system recourses, the level of protection you feel youve received, and anything else that may be relevant is most welcome. (Including links to support what your experience has been if you wish). One more thing
I will occasionally use an On-Line Scan. However, that choice is for those that use ONLY on-line scans and have no permanent antivirus installed. Thank you for your input! |

Re: What Antivirus Program do you use?I use AVG. I don't know why. Perhaps it's the simplicity. I discovered this program on accident when I was finding info on PC-Cillin. I've tried, Avast, AntiVir, Norton AV, McAfee but always seem to go back to AVG. |

This a good poll and I can't wait to see how it turns out when we get a lot of results. I use Avast Free. Mainly because I am very very careful but I still want something but I don't want to pay a lot for it. Avast is cheap (free) and isn't too intrusive on my system. I don't notice it is there and it is doing something. As opposed to Norton that I had before which was expensive If yo buy the full version every year) and completely took over my system infecting itself into every aspect of my life. I could swear I found some Norton files under my pillow |

I also use AVAST because I'm cheap and -- so far -- it works. |

Hey..."other" is a whole lot better than "Who needs Antivirus protection?" I suppose while I'm here, I should add that I voted for AVG. I use it on four Computers. Like Airwolf , I've tried a bunch of others (Including pay versions), but seem to go back to AVG as well. I did like Avast too and used it a couple of times (especially when AVG was having Server Problems) , but felt it was just a bit more of a resource hog than AVG....on my older Machine, I did see a noticeable slowdown. Oh...and Norton? I don't think Sentinel was the only one finding files under the Pillow....they were chasing me all over the house when I tried to remove it. (Several years ago). Only my personal opinion of course. I think Norton offers a pretty good level of protection, but does indeed grab hold of your System and refuses to let go. I think there are better programs out there, but AVG seems to work fine for me. And yeah, I guess it's mostly because I'm basically cheap too. I like free. |

NOD32. I won a free year's subscription and I'm really impressed. The auto-update feature works great and Eset seems to really keep on top of the latest threats (sometimes 2-3 updates per day). I've used Symantec and McAfee in the past but this one's a keeper! |

Currently using Avast! on 3 different computers, after dumping both Norton and ZASS with time remaining on their subscriptions. Configurability and visibility were major issues with both, plus the huge infrastructure that comes with NAV. Liked the Avast! transparent updates, configurability and visibility and the webshield for scanning http traffic. Tried AVG, but didn't like the cumbersome update or find the configuration approach for things like SSL email as convenient as avast! AVG did have a better integrated interface, plus scheduled scans in the free version, but not something I use. Avast! also has a really good online forum with participation by their staff for problem solving at » forum.avast.com/index.ph ··· oard=2.0 and seems amenable to helping even free users with custom solutions. Really useful upgrades to Avast! since the last virus scanner poll, and still free. |

Avast free. Excellent AV with good support frequent updates. Avast is always fast to release an update to a breaking threat. Support forums are great. |
