Re: Help! Medford NY Problem

Actually, acceptable ranges are Receive: -15 - +15 dBmV and Transmit: 32 - 58 dBmV.

But it's true that signal strength declines as it gets hotter outside. Removing a splitter, or replacing an old or crappy one might do the trick.

For every two way split (good ones) it is 3.5 dB loss of signal.

So removing one splitter from the equation may help your problem.

Where did you hear that an upstream of 58 dBmV is acceptable?

That's max transmit; Cablevision will roll a truck if your modem is at that level.

Yes, that's the extreme end of the signals.

When I said acceptable, I meant acceptable to facilitate modem synch. Most likely this is the case and that's why he's losing synch intermittently.

Are they willing to run a full length of cable straight from the first splitter to the modem? When CV was at my house they sent out a contractor with a Sanford & Son truck and he tied into a line that had a splitter which branched off to other tv's in the house. So there are two splitters and the modem is on the second split. Several weeks later I finally got a real CV tech out and he said it would be fine that way.
